    Right to repair

No unfortunately. US federal law via the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act prohibits a manufacturer such as BMW from tying their factory warranty to the consumer’s use of the manufacturer’s repair services or parts. This is commonly known as the “right to repair.” Stated differently a manufacturer...

Converting rim from tube to tubeless

Thanks for sharing. This is great to hear. Can you please provide details on the sealant and the tape that you used?

    Sidecar Riders and Installers...

This assertion regarding warranties being voided is simply not correct. At least one person on the site has had major warranty work with a side car installed. Other data points from my dealer back this up as well. Useful to have actual, fact and experience-based information so others can make...

    Sidecar Riders and Installers...

5,000 miles now with the Hannigan/r18 classic set up. Plenty of time on interstates, in the curves and around town. It’s a fantastic combo. Not inexpensive, but worth it if you really want to use this type of rig. Definitely get the camber control which makes all the difference.

    Engines and the future

Very well said. Same logic as to why I bought two R18s. Because today I can, but tomorrow…

Is there a BMW shop manual out for our bikes yet? Or, an electronic version?

A belated thank you for this by the way. I used it and the BMW MOA engine oil/final drive/transmission fluid change videos on YouTube to do the first service on my R18s. Pretty straightforward process actually with all of the torque values and fluid volumes available. Magnusson Moss Warranty...

    Minutiae

Well done Sir! Please continue the quest and let us know the outcome. Like you I much prefer the classic sans windscreen and would like to plug the holes so looking forward to see how you solve our problem!

What did you do to your R18 today?

    Absolutely made for a sidecar!

    R18 with Sidecar '

Just picked this up from Hannigan Motorsports on Tuesday. R18 c has already relayed what a great pleasure Dave and Ruth Ann Hannigan are to work with. This was the best time I’ve had handing over a large bucket of cash in quite a while. First time on a side car, but I made it the 630 miles...

Price Aside, what R18 did you want, did you buy that one and why?

What a great description, yet I keep throwing my credit card at them! High quality stuff though.

    R18 B in Dallas

Fwiw, I bought two r18 classics and a triumph bobber for my wife from Bmw Plano. The sales manager there, Cliff Couch, is absolutely fantastic to work with….and I’ve seen the B you’re thinking about and it is a beauty in its simplicity without all of the fancy optional “studf” attached

Is Lack of Reverse a Deal Breaker?

It is beautiful to behold. Finally dropping my classic off at Hannigan late next week for the sidecar installation thanks to R18C’s very helpful guidance.

    And the freezing weather continues....

Right. My summer rides in N Texas start around 3am and end around 10ish, when it starts getting sweaty. I’ve happily discovered that’” 10 AM is not too early to start drinking given the early start. All about being flexible!

    And the freezing weather continues....

Then I won’t mention that it’s low-70s and sunny today in Dallas as that would be rude

    R18 Handling

And, as I’ve just now been made aware from my learned brethren above, in so doing I am probabilistically most likely to get laid…win win all around. This forum is always enlightening!
