I wouldn't go so far as to suggest dishonest dealings, but I must ask why does a dealer have First Edition kits that didn't go with the sale of First Editions?
Color me "old fart", but if it were an option, I would have NOTHING that doesn't use a common metal key in a slot. Unfortunatley both my cars and both of my motorcycles are "keyless". Ahhhh for the good old days when you could have a key duplicated so that you not only had a spare or three, but...
Have you ever thought that the R18, in ROCK mode, seems to have a more pronounced irregular idle while sitting still, clutch disengaged and in first gear than it does in neutral, clutch engaged? I'm not sure if it's real or if I'm just imagining it. But if I put it in neutral at a stop light, it...
I tried looking for the web site but only got results from You Tube and Facebook (which I have no use for). I did find this:
https://cyclingtips.com/2015/01/bikebug-how-one-aussie-bike-shop-is-competing-against-the-big-brands/
So I guess they're new and "upcoming". There is a You Tube video...
I'm not as fast as I was when I was younger and willing to risk the machinery. And the Tail of the Dragon is no place to be foolish. Still, the other riders and drivers on the Dragon were great. Most folks who realize that they're holding up faster vehicles pull out when they can, to let you by...
Granted the OEM mufflers are EXPENSIVE, but so are the stockers on other brands (albeit not usually AS expensive as BMW parts) and there are lots of them rotting in landfills after they were replaced with expensive aftermarket exhausts. The prices of some aftermarket exhaust systems are amazing...
Good info, Dave!
My R18 only has about 2500 miles on it, but I'm looking forward to checking the valves. It's sure gonna be a lot simpler than all of those Japanese multis that I've done for decades. Let alone the Ducati desmos!
It's the BMW accessory "weekender seat" made by Mustang and it transforms the R18 into an all day rider for me. There was a gent at Deal's Gap who also had an R18, but he only has the stock seat, so he rode up from Florida on his HD.
Yesterday I rode my R18 from Tellico Plains, along the Cherohala Skyway and the Tail of the Dragon. WOW! The R18 was fantastic.
And every place where I stopped other riders came over and asked about it. It got tons of compliments.
I got some great video, but it's in 3 parts and stitching them...
It's been covered elsewhere in this forum, but not all the First Editions came without cruise control. My FE has it. What I'm not certain of is whether ot not I got cruise control because I specifically requested it when I ordered the bike OR would it have had CC anyway. The only thing that...
The actual brake pad material is NOT beveled top to bottom (outboard-to-inboard). The pad material has an angled friction surface at both ends that makes it look like that.

I think that the BMW book is the best part of the box. The copper badges are cool, but I just don't think that the copper color would look "at home" on a bike that has nothing else with copper coloring.
It's absolutely true that worn or untorqued steering head bearings can cause a variety of handling problems including speed wobble/weave/"tank slappers". But a motorcycle with new, properly torqued bearings can suffer "tank slappers" when the conditions conspire for it.
Modern sportbikes OFTEN...
Good tech Estoma. In my years as a motorcycle tech I've never seen a steering damper much larger than what came on my R18 (which has cruise control). The old Kawasaki two stroke tripels going back to the late 1960s had 'em and they worked just as you describe. Many road racers bought the same...
When my R18 came in, I thought that it was too late to get the First Edition box and, in fact, I was expecting that the bike wouldn't even be called a "First Edition". It was and they gave the FE box it to me the same day I picked up the bike. No helmet though.
As a wrench who's worked on too many motorcycle to count, I have ridden motorcycles with them and always came away shaking my head in wonder that some folks like them.
I certainly don't intend to change anyone's mind about ape hangers. If you like 'em, that's OK with me. ;)
Zactly! It's the nature of the beast with online forums. There will be duplicate informational posts, because not everyone has the time to read them all before a rider decides to be helpful with what he thinks is a new one.
