R18 Anniversary Edition
On interstate highway I-35 north out of Oklahoma City the road is smooth with no potholes of any kind. But about every 250 ft or so, there seems to be a concrete berm running crossways with the traffic flow. (likely from thermal expansion during a hot summer sun).
These bumps are intense to the point of loosening a tooth socket or rearranging two vertebra. I am glad the R18 forks are raked forward 33 degrees because if not, they might break off.
What a jolt!

Concrete roadway? They seem to be popular in the Mid-West. The expansion joints on those seem to bs the worst.

Interstate highways in the US southeast are just dangerous. Never ride them unless no other option. At any given time, there are long stretches of road construction littered with various debris and holes. Accidents and traffic jams usually result on longer trip times. Nothing like sitting in stopped traffic on a 120 degF super slab.

The UK roads are sadly not better. Potholes the size of the South Pole Aitken basin. Close to the village where I live, there is a town that one has to go for groceries etc. I actually drive around this town to avoid certain roads that takes me straight to the town centre and other amenities because their poor condition. On my way to work there is a stretch of the motorway that has lateral asphalt lines (no paint) which are about 1 metre apart from each other and possibly 2 to 3 cm high and it goes for a whole mile. Travelling at 50mph over this stretch of road makes the vibrations on the bike so severe that I am convinced this was the culprit of my headlight failure, seriously the whole thing shakes up and down like crazy.

This is why I have always had a Bike with LONG TRAVEL suspension, like my 2024 Suzuki 800DE Adventure bike, Africa Twin's, GS Beemer's that barely register the BUMPS. I've had 5 Beemer's over the years and will soon buy an R18--LORD willing.
Just needs to be engineered for it's environment. My Victory Visions rides like a dream even on rough roads. My TC rides like a truck in comparison. My friends HDs are essentially unrideable on washboard roads.

I also think for starters that the government, the highway agencies and all other entities in charge of roads and infrastructure should pave the roads properly and maintain them accordingly, rather than leave them like the place got destroyed by carpet bombing. I mean, we pay taxes of all sorts, including council tax, road tax and highway tolls in many places. Where does that money go?

RhoXS,
I was interested to read your TC rides like a truck. Have not heard many say this. It may not be adjustable if computer controlled.

The Vic sets a high bar. I'm sure the TC rides better than it's HD counterparts, but it's certainly a lot rougher than the Vision. Coastal roads in SC are very rough and I take a bit of a beating riding down US17 south of Charleston.

Co-rup-shun. Process for bidding and funding infrastructure is on par with trash collection in New Jersey. Contractors are not held accountable for sub par work.
