Headlight Recall

2022 R18 B
I have a 2022 R18 B with what I assume is the broken bracket discussed on recall. headlight pointing at the ground and shaking when riding. Has anyone had the issue and what did the dealer do about it? I'm waiting for a cxall from my dealer dervice dept.
 
Sorry to hear that you have fallen victim of this issue. There are lots of post here about the issue. It is best to follow those threads rather than create another one as the whole thing will get discussed all over again etc etc. Not having a go, just keeping things tidy. In resume, there is nothing official yet about the fix. Do flag your problem with the dealer so you joint the queue of bikes needing the replacement. Best of luck.
 
From what I've read here, dealers can't even replace a broken light with an unbroken unit, as the unit is deemed faulty and is under recall. Sadly, those in your situation are SOL until BMW arrives with the new replacement, which has been rumored to be any point over the summer months.
 
yep. Thats what my dealer told me as well. Also, cant do night riding as low beam is too low with the broken part in the way. The high beam helps a bit but its still too dangerous to be riding at night. I was planning on a long trip this august so ill be really pissed off if it dont get resolved before then.
 
I’m in the same boat. Bike is unrideable at night. Nothing dealer can do until redesigned light is available which does NOT have any ETA currently. I traded in the r18b yesterday for a new Harley and THEY knew about the recall. So word has gotten out. Ironically enough the local HD dealer knew about it but my local BMW dealer didn’t until I brought it to their attention with my bike lol. Just pure insanity
 
The BMW dealer knew about it. They’re just playing dumb to take the pressure off themselves.

And FYI - Harley has recalls all the time, so it’s not like you magically get everything perfect switching manufacturers.

What folks need to do though, is track & document the moment your bike becomes unridable - and look up lemon law in your state (if in the USA). Each state handles it generally but once your bike is officially unsafe according to the recall the clock starts ticking for the manufacturer to fix it or it legally becomes a lemon.

I talked to my local dealer, and a dealer in Michigan, and both of them stated that the replacement fixes should start rolling out to dealerships the end of May. Neither specified if owners or showroom bikes would be first for the fix.

Which Michigan dealer? Curious who might know a thing or two in my area.

Of course but this is a bit different than a normal recall. I couldn’t even ride that bike for months on end at night and it’s one of my primary sources of transportation. On top of that, BMW has left us completely in the dark without an update and (unlike a Harley) there are ZERO alternative or aftermarket options to at least fix it. AND you can’t even buy a ridiculous 3k replacement in a pinch as there are none available in the US. So there are zero fixes except to sell. The R18 is a good bike, but that’s inexcusable from a company like BMW. I don’t attach my identity to bike manufacturers. I just call it how I see it. If you want to defend it by all means. You’ll get no qualms out of me
 
I can attest that the headlights have started to ship. My dealer called me yesterday to say one was on the way for the bike I’ve had a deposit on and approved financing since December. For those talking about the Lemon Kaws, they don’t really apply to recalls because the manufacturer is trying to fix the issue.

Your dealer has been kept up to date, they had a nationwide sales meeting back in April and were told the headlights should start shipping by the end of June. And you actually are not supposed to sell any vehicle that is under a stop sale/stop use recall, you can be sued by the buyer. Call your dealer tell them to hound BMW, that’s what mine did, and I’ve granted one of the first ones to ship to the states.

Incorrect.

The manufacturer still has to fix it within a reasonable time.

Of course it varies a little state to state. But once the vehicle is deemed unusable due to the recall, the clock starts ticking.

Issuing a recall doesn't end their responsibility - they have to actually follow through with the recall and fix the vehicle.

I'm not *defending* anything. It sucks.

But I have had many vehicles recalled, some for very serious recalls. No manufacturer is immune.

If you couldn't ride it for months on end and it is a primary form of transportation, you should have sought legal remedy.
