Has anyone heard if the reverse "fix" has been announced for the US?
Thanks
I just got a call yesterday from my local dealer here in South Florida about the repair. They said the parts are available but they needed to order them and the parts are assigned to my VIN so I had to commit to bringing my bike to their shop for the fix.

Thank you for the response. I appreciate that you took the time to provide that insightful answer.

Never heard of a Shorai battery, whats so special about them.
Lithium IRON Phosphate - different from lithium ion. They’re smaller, much lighter (2 lbs instead of 10), no maintenance, self discharge at extremely low rate, aren’t effected by motorcycle vibration (like lead and glass mat batteries), don’t heat up and burst into flames (like lithium ion), aren’t effected by deep-cycle discharge and charging, no liquid so can be mounted in any position even upside down. I’ve had them in 3 bikes, each over ten years and functioning just like new. One of them I know lasted at least 5 more years in the bike I sold. Negatives - they don’t like extremely cold or extremely hot (way beyond our normal riding temps), and they’re kinda pricey - the one I just put in my R18 was @$300 - but well worth that to me.

I’ve got my fix scheduled for week after next with my local dealer. As someone mentioned, the parts are assigned to the VIN and it’s performed by the dealer.
In other news, I didn’t get mine in last fall for the temporary disablement while the fix solution was figured out by the think tank at BMW so…I missed out on the $1000 credit toward parts. I was a little annoyed but it makes sense.

Mine is done and there is a service advisory out for greasing final drives splines. I was done too along with a brake bleed, tires and an air cleaner.

DonC thank you for the battery information. I stick with a.good AGM because i don't want to have to buy a different charger. Plus i have a 4 bank charger/tender and now down to 3 bikes and my SUV. By keeping them on the charger/tender I'm getting long life out of them. Always did that since i owned victories and indians before and the AGM were lasting 5 to 7 1/2 yrs. So I'm happy with what i have. To be honest i did not know thetr where different types of lithium batteries. I do know some insurance companies are rasing prices if you do have a lithium battery because of the fire hazard. And as for the battery getting hot. On these R18's they don't get near as hot as they do on a Harley or Indian. Where on those the battery is right behind the rear jug and exhaust causing them to really get hot.

Mine came new from the shop in February this year with reverse disabled but has now been reinstated with the campaign completed. Bloody shop lost all my programmed settings though in the process. In New Zealand

Yeah, when you find something that works for you, stick with it. Dont fix it if it ain’t broke.

Its not that they lost your setting, they had to do a systems upgrade which drops all the prior settings and resets all new factory settings. They do this when there are a number of things that have to be updated. Sure its a pain to reset the things to your prefered setup. But that is how its done when there are a number of updates are being done at one time.

I have mine scheduled for the reverse module fix and they told me no ECU update is necessary. Only scheduled for a two hour job. I have not had any ECU updates since I purchased the bike in 2023.
