You might want to rethink. Your only intake IS your intake. Dust in the wind is dust in the wind. As a side note, (pun intended) the side plates will likely only expel air that taken in by the stock intake if you remove the snorkels.

Damn. Not much help but empathy. I would expect the lock is dirty and not broken. Google “gastank lock won't open with key” for some cleaning tips. Fwiw in my 66 years on this planet I have yet to encounter a need to have my fuel tank locked. Lucky I guess.
