Fwiw... my take on it is that is it was sprung on the heavy side and worst still I felt the rear shock had too much compression dampening in relation to the rebound..... so unless you weighed 150kg plus it was impossible to get it "dialed" for non perfect roads for us little people.

The 20mm or so lift my wilbers shock gave removed 90% of "oops scrapes".

My 30% is about how the bike performace is way way over the top for australian laws.... I can run my r18 really hard'n fast at least in the first 3 to 4 gears..... 45mph corners at 70mph feels really fast'n fun...... acceleration'n braking hard is not stupidly illegal.... a modern 1,000cc...

In Australia, the 1600 would need a "life time get out of jail" card to make any sense. Without, one can only ride the bike at about 30% most of the time. Part of the R18 appeal for me is it allows me to ride at 80% of the bikes capability, or so most of the time I feel like it..... lots of...

As a bit of an outlier, one possible cause is that the clutch master cylinder has an adjustable "piston" that closes when the clutch is pressed so that tne clutch line is presurised..... and when the lever is released it opens so that the clutch reservoir and line are connected and fluid can...

And.... maybe..... one side pulls tight and then the other is tensioned leaving a small air gap....... this might be on my r9t though....

Welcome back to riding.... I stoped when I was 40 and came back when I turned 60. Worth spending some time in a safe area doing emergency braking practice etc.... the R18 can handle and stop well with practice. My first $ though would be spent on suspension.
