    R18 pure to classic conversion?

Ulrich, I also have a Corbin seat I bought second-hand here on the forum. While the seat isn't immaculate, I've been able to keep any significant leather wear at bay with a leather conditioner recipe I found somewhere online. This is what I use: DIY Leather Conditioner Ingredients: - Solid...

    R18 - Aftermarket ECU options

Another thought, did you plug your rear O2 sensors into the correct plugs? The plugs are close enough to possibly confuse and cross during reinstallation. The ECU would then read incorrect O2 measurements from each pipe, thus throwing a CEL. Just something to check/consider. Mike

    R18 TC Top Case Loose

As with all fasteners with rubber grommets, I'd recommend using at least Loctite blue, versus torquing the bolt down until the rubber squishes (excessively). This way, your bolt remains secure, but the rubber grommet retains its ability to dampen vibrations. The locktite blue ensures that the...

    about ´guards´

This guy understands the Peltzman effect 🤣 PSA for those googling "riding motorcycle naked".....I don't recommend searching these photos while at work! :p Mike

    Exhaust chrome plating repair

I got an email that this thread was being responded to again. I'll reiterate my previous comment that 0000 (QUAD, four zeros) steel wool works WONDERS on chrome (aka: chromium). The lubricant isn't as important, but IMHO, I wouldn't use steel wool on chromium dry. I could probably google a study...

    Oil Leak Help

I wouldn't discount Ulrich's advice, as components are close together on the R18's. However, I know that the oil breather tube routes into the airbox and, that over time, it will accumulate with oil if the drain hose hasn't been opened up in a while. So, before trying Ulrich's idea, check this...

    2025 discontinued 🤷‍♂️….updated title, nope it’s not! 👍

As a 2022 R18 Transcontinental owner, I respectfully disagree. The added top box and windbreakers not on the bagger model help make the TC the top of the line. For those who've ridden any amount of time on the interstates will quickly realize how valuable those front fork windbreakers are on...

    The positive things thread

Look buddy, I don’t know you from Adam. Please don’t assume you control who says what about anything. I WILL continue to disparage modern HD’s and their over the top riders/fans. If you don’t like it, then sod off and block me on here. I wouldn’t want my “hateful” speech about HD make you...

    The positive things thread

Me hiding from Harley Davidson's and their "passionate" riding base. However, I have no issues with the pre-AMF HD's, but most after 1969 aren't bikes I would own. (Picture description of a lot of HD riders) I may accept a HD if I get it for free OTOH. Mike

    Dropped your R18 yet?

Just wear a mask and a shirt saying "police". Bonus points if you can find a secondhand bullet proof vest from your local army surplus store. Also, make sure you refuse to identify yourself ;). Mike

600 mile trip. Do I need oil?

This is the air compressor I got for Alcina. I've used it a couple times and...it works like a compressor should 🤷‍♂️. It's not the fastest thing, but I have no complaints about it. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C5QX1BMR Mike

600 mile trip. Do I need oil?

I also carry my GS-911, REAL spare tools, and a portable air compressor on Alcina. I’ve never had an issue with cargo space on her. Because she takes such specific oil is why I carry a quart, versus relying on the blue bottles from Walmart, should it come to low oil on the road. I stand by my...

600 mile trip. Do I need oil?

Ditto on this. I ALWAYS have an extra quart or two of oil in my vehicles, and Alcina. Same goes for coolant (for my cars). "It's better to have it and not need it, then to need it and not have it..." That said, Alcina doesn't burn oil like my X5 35d. Mike

    Tubed to Tubeless

For next time, or those who've never installed tire tubes: To reduce the risk of tube tears, use some cheap baby powder, both inside the tire and coat the tube when installing. Also, don't tighten down the schraeder valve nut until the tube is semi-inflated, so the tube isn't torqued in an...

    The positive things thread

    1. What attracted you to the R18; what made you buy it. I bought mine (Alcina) sight unseen (pictures only from my dealership website). My first ride on her was taking her home. She's a 2022 R18 TC first edition. I've wanted one ever since BMW announced the R18 line, as I was a "Chromehead"...

    Spark plugs

I have no plans on replacing mine at 12k, as it's clearly a waste of $$$$. Plus, I'll be out of warranty by then, so nothing lost for me. One has to ask themselves: what's so damn different between our engines using iridium plugs, versus a car using the same? I don't know ANY vehicle...

    Non-Ethanol fuel

Our owner manuals state that 87 octane is fine as an "alternative" fuel. Our bikes are a 9.6:1 compression ratio. Also, from BP's website: "The compression ratio of your vehicle is from 9:1 to 10:1, you can use 90. octane"...
