I got to thinking about this and why would BMW put an opening under those plates on each side? If the purpose is just to show an "1800 cc" plaque on both sides a simple 2 bolt holes per side would suffice to attach the plates. But, no, they actually left holes there for the aftermarket (or any...

For now I just put an oversized nut under each bolt (as someone else did) to lift the stock plate a qtr inch or so until I perhaps order the JLE plates.

I first went with the BT-Moto tune on stock air filter ... honestly noticed no difference in performance. When I put the DNA stage 2 air filter in is when I felt a difference so I understand your reticence but honestly, once moving, I'd bet hot air is no longer an issue as it's getting sucked...
