Thanks for sharing your experience and for the pics. I'll have to tackle this soon and certainly before any longer trip. Think I'll start with the winglets (OEM or custom) and work from there until I'm satisfied with protection. Your setup seems to protect very well without being too "intrusive".

Thanks Scott, good to know how the winglets actually work. Your height seems right for the B model - I'm 5' 10" with a tall upper body and I get a lot of buffeting. I think it's partly because of my jet helmet, partly because I need a taller screen and partly because of the "missing" winglets...

I'm pretty sure my Vespa from 2004 and my R1200RT from 2005 had chipped keys. I'd think it has been standard on BMW bikes from around that time - it would be strange if my model was the only one.

Keyed ignitions have immobilizers, are you saying it'll take 45 seconds to bypass those?
