The one piece of advice I give everyone is to always use the exact filter wrench BMW uses… Always, every time. You don‘t have to get it from BMW; I love Beemer Boneyard‘s maintenance kits, you can get air oil, washers and wrench… even with oil! From them. The oil is cheaper than the store...
I am a long time BMW owner and on my CANBUS bikes I just attach a pigtail to the battery and use a regular inexpensive battery trickle charger/maintainer on them. It’s how I get my best results. My 2021 FE battery is still optimal and it is a glass mat battery. I’ve never had a battery last...
I can answer that as a Ural guy. Ural makes the only ready made leading link sidecar rig in the world. You can go buy a Heritage soft tail on facebook for $7500 :-). The R18 is unusual and weird. I like it but I knew what I was getting into when I bought it. BMWs only residual value...
Actually, my R18 was not reliable in any way. Perhaps the worst new consumer product I have ever purchased and BMW did nothing to help make it right until I threatened litigation. And it was those “little issues” that weren’t little issues you speak of. I have been riding BMW for 45 years...
Not True; all the models had first editions that came with pinstripes, Glasurit black paint, different chrome etc. I, for one, wouldn’t have even wanted the bike with out the black paint and pinstripes. The best news is the First edition naked and classic bikes sold at big discounts.
Exactly, this is the positive things thread. All bikes are still bikes
So, when I was a youngster, my stepdad‘s parents had two old R60/2s disassembled in their sun room. They were just plain elegant. I was already riding dirt bikes and racing, When I got my motorcycle permit, I was just...
Well, you‘re lucky. I have the Madstad and just couldn‘t get it to work well for me. I don‘t use a windshield a lot but I had the Puig… with a deflector on top it was a pretty good windshield
Fewer and fewer people want motorcycles like they used to be. They want spaceships that can cross the galaxy in ten hours :-). I know, because I loved my GSes because they were the cutting edge of travel :-). But the R18 is what they used to be like, raw… shaky… wind battering your face...
I put a BMW weekender on my bike, I purchased it from a fellow member and I really like it for up to 500 miles. If you‘re going up from there, the Russel Day Long is the most comfortable seat in the universe… but I bet one on an R18 would look like fresh hell. It is a magnificent seat, though
Oh, I agree. Aesthetics are a matter of opinion… But if I wanted a Road Glide I would buy one and the headlight wouldn‘t rattle around in circles. It is all good and to each their own. The naked, pinstriped R18 looks like an old BMW. The bagger well, looks like an R18 bagger
So, they made the R18 First Edition just for me :-). It is a gorgeous motorcycle, it‘s fun to ride and it has some real nods to BMWs heritage… and I have ridden their bikes for 45 years… The pinstripes and black paint and simplicity of it all makes me feel like I‘m riding a motorcycle that...
I don‘t know; honestly I have owned a few CANBUS Beemers and have had terrible luck with the fancy chargers. I attach a pigtail directly to the battery and use a simple battery tender. I am critical when necessary but I will give the R18 battery props. It has lasted me 4 years and my...
I can’t remember what I used but it will come off easy, Last time one got all over the pipes and cat on my GS I think I just used rubbing alcohol then some wad-40 and steel wool, followed up with some chrome polish. It’s no big deal.
Well, I would like a Pan America. I have owned every iteration of the GS… My favorites were the R80 P/D and my R100 P/D. The Pan America is more like the earlier P/D models and I have test ridden one. Plain and simple, performance wise it can kick the snot out of a GS. Lighter faster...
