That's my thought... and 20k miles seems like a nice, round number for a service / fluid change.
Give it a good inspection... if nothing is leaking or loose, I would go with just a fluid change.
The reservoir just holds spare fluid to account for wear on the pads (brake and clutch). A smaller reservoir would just mean you'd have to check the level more often, so no issue there.
The REAL question is whether the master cylinders have the same specs as the factory lever set. This will...
I run 2-up often with the wife. No problems at all. ( EDIT: '22 Classic )
I keep the suspension set directly between suggested settings for my solo weight and the 2-up weight of me and the wife. So it's a little stiff when solo, a little soft when 2-up.
I also keep the rear tire at 42 psi...
Different height & weight riders & passengers... Different seats/handlebars change rider seating positions (also floor boards v/s pegs)... What works for you may not work for me.
My '04 R1200C had a weird buffeting on my shins when there was a small cross-wind. I added a deflector just above...
I got a few looks of "Oh wow! A Cruiser!", accompanied by a thumbs-up during the Barber Vintage Festival (BMW Motorrad Days Americas).
Granted, that's not a BMW Specific festival, but still surprising when someone recognizes an old R1200C.

I have the short screen on my Classic. I find that the Memphis Shades lowers made a HUGE difference in removing turbulence without having to mount a larger screen.
For reference, I'm 5'10" and my line of sight is about 3" over it.
I do have a larger Clearview windscreen (with the curved...
Maybe check various decorative engine covers???
- Outer valve cover
- Front chrome/polished engine cover and/or oil cooler/cover
- Top "engine case" pieces that cover the air intake & air filter
Perhaps you have a loose screw or two in one of those.
The older Metzeler 880 tires used to cup like that on the front of both my Valkyrie and R1200C. Once cupped, they would howl when leaned over at speed.
Running higher pressures up front (40 - 42 psi) did reduce the cupping, but didn't completely get rid of it.
Even with that, I never had...
Is there any way to get the locking lever at the bottom of the windshield mount?
The locking clamp (no number shown), pin (#12), washer (#11), and clip (#8) all disappeared during a ride.
Sadly, I'm a whole 140 miles into ownership... and I'm ALREADY loosing parts... :cautious:
Just picked up a used Classic with only 2000 miles on it!
It'll be a big sister to my R1200 Montauk. (y)
This is going to be set up for touring, so a few things will be needed...
- Bring the handlebars up and back a couple inches to get rid of the forward lean while riding
- Put larger (&...
