    Rusting Rear Fender

OK, just checked. No issues with my rear end, so to speak.

    Rusting Rear Fender

Wait, they're metal? I'd better check my TC's rear fender too (I thought they were plastic or fibreglass).

R20 almost prod ready it seems

Well, the jump from R18 to R20 is only ~100 cc's per jug, then strip off all the R18s' extra bling and the wieght that goes with it, and off you go for a ride through the forest on an R20. Doesn't really work for me though - looks like they forgot to finish the bike on the line, and look at the...

    Customs R18

Just while we're on the impracticalities, where did the battery go? And did they shrink the size of the front discs? How do you stop the thing? On the flip side, I decided I liked the look of the air intake housing with its mesh screen - better than performance plates. The carbs are way cool...

    Customs R18

That's a really interesting retro minimalist look. Very cool. Really shows off the exposed retro look kardan shaft. Love the knee pads and the fender bracings too, but no valve covers? Thats off point to my eye. Needed ribbed valve covers. I wonder about that back tyre - looks too narrow or too...

    R18 Louvered Performance Plates

I really like the look of the "1802" on the CF horns, but found myself looking for something on the jug covers - that big blank spot on the CF is just asking for an "R 18 FIRST EDITION" or something similar in matching script. You know you want to. ;)

    Oil recommendations.

My old K100 and K1200 were dry clutch bikes; the K1300 was a wet clutch design. Design wise, the older K bikes were notorious for the $2.85 seal failing, letting oil through into the clutch housing and costing the rider a new clutch. The K1300 was a superb machine - the wet clutch eleminated the...

    Engine Oil

Can't resist stirring the pot - my Transcontinental Rider's Manual, on page 169, says: SAE 15W-50, API SJ / JASO MA2, BMW Motorrad recommends BMW Motorrad ADVANTEC Pro. Maximum of 0.5 L for a top up (between the lines in level glass) and 4.0 L for an oil change with a new filter. I use Penrite...

    Valve Cover Protection

I went this route too - I got the sacrificial chrome version via ali baba and the 40 thieves. Worked out great - very solid aluminium, good clean paintwork, perfect fitting, and much cheaper the RSD. Did however then find a much reduced $ RSD version on fleabay. Also have a set of reduced $ RSD...

What did you do to your R18 today?

Can you do Lamos on a 3D printer?

    Customs R18

On the morning of my wedding, my soon to be father-in-law decided to check in with me. He asked: "do you know the secret to a happy marriage?" This came from a man who was married for over 40 years at that point and had six children. His advice was similar - just say yes and enjoy the ride. Said...

    Customs R18

I have absolutely no idea what Noelpolar means, [ed.: the angry wife bit], but can you get an R18 in beige? I know they come in a very tasteful big city grey, but beige? I'm a gloss black, chrome and pin stripe kinda bloke so didn't pay much attension to colour choices.

    LJE Performance Plates

Yep, that was my solution too - just bunged a spacer in behind the plates to give me a stand-off distance of around 5 mm (https://www.r18forums.com/threads/r18-louvered-performance-plates.4756/post-64365). Your spacers look neater than what I did. I swear it makes a difference to the...

Nice Day for a Ride/That’ll Buff Out 🙄

Crickey! If you have to have a gravity attach that's probably about as good as it gets. Good work on getting it back up; nice red / blacked out Rocktane too, btw. As you say, easily fixed. There are indeed much worse things to have to deal with. Each to their own on the cluttered versus...

    The R18 sidecar thread

So, while not a fan of sidecars, yet, I finally found one that I actually like: https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/lankes-auktionen/catalogue-id-lankes1-10053/lot-8555dd79-7324-4539-b16a-b49c00a2e215. ;)

    Reverse/Backup Light and Beeper?

Yep, I have one on my TC - the Hornig version: https://www.motorcycleparts-hornig.com/BMW-R-18/Alu-High-grade-Steel/Shift-lever-extension-reverse-gear.html. In my opinion, its not completely useless bling. Makes reaching down for the reverse lever much easier and has no real downside, as far as...

    Airbox Cover Billet Alloy

Damn. I only got 0.92 kW via my stood up (jilted?) performance plate mod. Clearly the copper looks spectacular AND delivers the performance improvement we've all been hunting. Do like the cover though. Pity it can't be unsee it now.
