The reason I published this video (made last saturday in the Swiss Alps) is to underline the amazing handling qualities of the R18 Transcontinental despite its weight.
They are the standard ones. Now I'm trying to find a BMW dealer that resells Jekill & Hyde full exhaust systems for my R18 TC as it seems they are the only certified ones for the Bagger versions of this R18.
Sounds great in Mr Hyde mode! I own an R18 Transcontinental and checking the J&H web site I saw that they have a version that works with the B and TC R 18 models. Considering that I can't find any alternative here in Europe (Freedom Performance only sells in the US) I think I'll go the Jekill...
I just made the first service (1000 Km) on my R18 Transcontinental by a BMW Motorrad official dealer in Milan (Italy) and I can confirm that it was at Zero cost as anticipated by the dealer where I bought the bike. Not bad considering that on my HD Touring bikes I was used to pay about 350 euros.
The K1600 (like the Goldwin or other similar models) is a nice scooter. Nothing to do with an R18 B or TC but this is not important: it only matters that you like it.
Here in Italy, the first Service at 1000 km (600 mi), is for free for the R18 Transcontinental I just purchased: can be done by any BMW official dealer on the territory. I don't know if it's only for the B and TC models or for all the R18 range.
Really interesting. I honestly had the idea that the restrictions imposed by the Euro 5 standard were going to choke the whole exhaust system but it seems it doesn't. It's important to know because now I can just consider to look for a pair of mufflers only, without changing pipes.
Why You say "destroying the stock OEM mufflers"? The idea is just to change the exhaust system with an "open" third party one as I always did in the past with HD: I never touched original mufflers or pipes so to keep them clean for when I decided to resell the bike.
I'm not an engineer or a...
Thanks for the charts. I don't know anything about this BT/moto tunes as I just entered into this BMW brave new world. Is it a Tuning done by a company and you need to bring your bike by them or you need to buy from them an ECM with pre-loaded tuning maps?
During the week end I could test my brand new R18 Transcontinental fully optional and I decided to write some note from the point of view of an HD Touring bikes owner.
From 2015 to 2021 I owned 6 different HD: Road King, CVO Street Glide, CVO Limited, Road Glide Ultra, CVO Street Glide again...
Thanks for Your reply. I knew it was like that. If the full exhaust system is not certified for the B or TC versions, the risk is that You need to "adapt" it to the bike as the other models has no bags or bags attached to the bike in different positions or with different gear. Compliments for...
