Don't know if this helps you but... I use those travel cubes in mine. I think mine are by Outdoor Research but there are several brands out there.
Been using them for years (decades? dammit): in suitcases, in backpacks, in Jesse's on my GS, etc. Allows myle to organize and compartmentalize all...
Is doing your own maintenance not an option? Not being critical at all because...
Full disclosure: I admittedly haven't done my R18 myself... yet, but the time is coming, both due to cost and the dealer being over 100 miles from me.
I've done almost all the maintenance on my R1150 GS over the...
I carry the plastic key in my wallet. I've found it will not link to the bike even when I set the plastic key onto the seat. But then again I typically have my wallet in my jacket or shirt pocket when riding... the ol' sciatic, ya know. I also carry a spare fob battery on the bike.... just in case.
Probably not very helpful but.... none, at least at this point in my life. The TC has been, and continues to be, a great bike for me, either solo or 2-up.
Excellent thread. I also do the garage bonding, with both the TC and the GS.
The TC is motive art and very comfortable for us, either solo or two-up. The GS is the ugly-beautiful of form-following-function and very comfortable for me 😊, but not for her.
I've put well over 90,000 wonderful...
Beautiful bike, my favorite color. I don't worry much about depreciation as I tend to keep my vehicles for a long time. Reliability matters more to me than re-sale value. Enjoy your ride!
Hi Scott,
I've only had the bar re-positioned the one time, by the dealer. I prefer to have my forearms roughly parallel with the ground when astride the bike.
As delivered, the bars were lower than was comfortable to me. This is probably because I'm used to my GS bars, which are set up higher...
Scott, my apologies as I read this post a couple days ago but I didn't realize it was meanr for me.
The bars and fairing still have plenty of clearance after my bsrscwete rotated up.
Excellent! At the very least, it gives you an alternative that allows you to adjusy your farkling priorities.👍
I've ridden like this for years on my GS, though on the TC it is a bit more of a hamstring and achilles stretch. 🙃
Agreed. The extensive HD dealership network is a good asset. Most HD dealerships I've been to have been very helpful and are much appreciated (shout out to High Plains HD in Clovis, New Mexico and Snake HD in Twin Falls, Idaho).
The relative scarcity of BMW dealerships is a valid point, though...
That's a great shot if your bike in your profile pic, looks good!
I getcha on the mileage. Keep at it, it'll come around.
I used to live where riding was year-round. I often rode to work and I tried to do at least one multi-day ride each year.
Now I live where riding is seasonal but...
Disclaimer: below are data points only, not an argument nor a conclusive 'fact'. Also not appropriate for the TLDR crowd.
I ride a TC and a GS, almost exclusively solo or 2-up. For my height, age and build, I find the TC a very comfortable bike for my type of long distance riding, especially...
👍 I haven't broken in my TC yet, only 7,800 miles so far. I consider this in relation to my '02 GS; it didn't feel broken in until I hit around 18,000 miles.
I would imagine jeans alone allow quite a bit of heat through! I wear leather boots that come up over the calf and I find the cylinder heads adequate for stretching out, no burning my legs. Just my way of doing it, YRMV.
