Just bought my first bmw motorcycle

Hello all! I just bought my R18 last week and it's my first bmw motorcycle. I'm alot more firmilar with triumphs And Harleys. I wasn't sure about the break in period on the R18. How many miles should I put on it riding it around town before I take it on a extended trip on the highway? Thanks in advance!

600 miles is the recommended break-in service.

BMW recommends that you vary the RPMs during the initial 600 miles. You should be able to ride on the highway, just avoid long durations at a constant engine speed.

With mine the concept was to stay under 4,000rpm.... vary load and revs if you can (some windy hilly roads is good).... and enjoy. With this motor run in really doesn't affect fun.... as most fun is 2,000 to 4,000rpm anyhow.

Once warm, I wouldn't be too easy on it though.
