You’re not alone in losing the side panel. If you aren’t really careful refitting them they fall off! bought a replacement from BMW earlier this year. Cost around £90 with the badge but no new grommets so I paid another £10ish for them! Also panel is unpainted. After fucking up mine with. a rattle can I took it to a local panel shop who did a great job for £50. I’m now super careful making sure the panels are attached properly.

Don't lube the grommets trying to make the panels easier to remove! A "little dab will do it" is not recommended!!!
