R18 Transcontinental Rear Suspension

Hi,

Can you adjust the rear suspension on the Transcontinental, last summer during a long ride the rear suspension bottomed out. Only happened that one day but a couple of times during the ride.

Hi Barry

The Transcontinental has automatic preload adjustment to help level the bike if carrying extra weight. That being said it does not change the spring rate(stiffness) of the spring or compression damping of the shock. If you were really loaded down you may have exceeded the weight capacity of the spring when you bottomed out the suspension. I don't know if anyone has installed a heavier rear shock spring on a Transcontinental but perhaps that is an option. An increase in compression damping could also help a bit but the stock shock, as far as I know does not have damping adjustments.

Thx for the information. I am concerned because I noticed the paint came off the hydraulic cylinder, I couldn’t find any leaks and assumed it was just poor quality of paint on the cylinder.

The cylinder is just poorly painted, as it is hidden away behind the LHS rear case..

I'm not aware of a mechanical adjustment for the TC or the Model B..

Did you have a passenger or were you loaded up within the cases...? If not, lay off the beer and doughnuts.....
