Roland Sands Design ornament for the chrome heads

I am about to pull the trigger on the RSD chromehead ornaments.
To prevent scratching, wouldn't clear packing tape provide the needed protection? I would have to carefully cut the excess with an exact-o knife. Any better ideas?

They don’t touch the cylinder heads. There is a very small gap between the RSD‘s and the chrome cylinder head covers
