I potentially have a set of original bars, with the OEM wiring harness still intact; the wiring harness, also supports the heated handgrips option...

Which bars did you put on your R18?
When the mini-apes were installed on mine before sale, they changed out the wire harness for the longer version.
I was told BMW makes two lengths for the R18. (Not sure why they installed the long version with the mini apes?)

I had to purchase the longer cables, due to the extra length of the Beachbars; I suspect, the same electrical kit is needed when installing the apes..
In short, the bars I currently have still have all of the necessary electrical wiring harnesses in place, which also includes the heated handgrip wiring.
