I bought my black&white oil head because it is retro and I am adding retro details.

It needs no explanation that even the most rudimentary windshield would improve comfort above say 80 km/h.
It makes me realize how recent this is.
I mean the period the R18 is homaging had nóóó such apart from speed record bikes and even that was in infant stages.
In the early seventies, when the /5 was the BMW, the wind protection was either racing fairing or Cali style police cw increasing things.
The dilemma is obvious.
I would like to reduce eye watering turbulence but looking 'period' ....

Try to find an old Wixom BMW fairing. There may be replicas out there.


If you are thinking about more of just a windshield - National Cycle makes vintage style windscreens - you would have to fabricate brackets for the BMW though.

thank you for the very much to the point suggestions.

Looking for something minimalist. From back then know how effective the 'bikini' thing on the Guzzi Le Mans was.
The R18 is a challenge though because of the lack of traditional head lamp brackets or even ditto fork legs.
BMW Europe has a nice looking one but it does not illustrate how that pans out:
