2023 R18 100 Year Edition, 2022 Triumph T100 Bonneville, 1987 K100 LT, 2018 Ducati Multistrada 950 (sold)
I'm riding a 2023 R18 100 year anniversary edition and I'm considering adding the Wunderlich cockpit fairing with the touring screen in hopes of reducing wind buffeting some. Has anyone done this, and is it worth it for anything more than cosmetic reasons? I don't want to relocate turn signals so the larger Highway fairing is not an option. Any thoughts on the Adjustable cruising screen by Wunderlich? I have a 1987 K100LT which is my winter bike and provides ample wind protection. Was hoping to extend my riding distances on the R18.

Thanks
Ralph

I have zero buffeting on my R18 Anniversary edition. To achieve this I added the Classic windshield frame bracket, then attached 18” Jurock.
Finally added fork mounted wind deflectors from Memphis Shades.

This combination has revolutionized the wind buffeting from underneath and elsewhere. It rivals the HD RoadGlide.

Clearview screens make a very good one for the Classic , i personally fitted an MRA extension on my 2022 Classic and Memphis Shades fork wind deflectors which make a great difference .

Hello Old Dude Ralph. The Wunderlich Cockpit Fairing was one of the first things I added to my 2023 Pure - primarily for aesthetics, but it does add some minimal wind protection. "Much better than nothing" is how I'd describe it in terms of effectiveness. I recently returned from a month long trip to the eastern Canadian provinces, and I doubt I could have done it without the little bit of extra wind and rain protection provided by the fairing. Since then, I've stopped trying to turn my Pure into more of a touring or long distance bike and now just enjoy it for what it is - a good-looking, big, heavyweight cruiser. I've recenently added Unit Garage drag bars (with bar end mirrors and Spiegler micro indicators) which stretched the riding position into a more forward leaning posture. This improved the wind flow a little more, allowing me to ride with my helmet visor up at lower speeds. And now since the temperatures are cooling down in central TX, the fairing does make for a more comfortable ride in cooler morning temperatures. I don't think, however, you'll ever achieve the level of wind protection that your old LT offers with the small Wunderlich Cockpit Fairing. Probably best to go with the BMW Classic Windshield or the Wunderlich Adjustable Cruise Screen plus fork deflectors as others recommend, if wind protection is your priority.

Appreciate the reply. I had taken note of this solution from other threads as well.

Noted. I didn't want to end up with a full screen like the Classic has, thus the Cockpit fairing for any wind reduction it might offer. The Memphis Shades fork deflectors seem the be well liked on the forum. Thanks.

Hello Manhattan Matte. Appreciate the feedback on the Cockpit Fairing. Looks great on your ride. Any wind reduction would be welcomed. I liked the nakedness of the model I purchased. Just that my rides have become longer than expected. The K bike does offer substantial protection. I may go ahead and do this for looks alone.

I recently installed the Clearview R18 Classic 18 inch replacement with the recurve. It only has marginal improvement over the OEM. I'm 5'-7" tall and on the stock seat.

Old Dude Ralph - more info on my Wunderlich Cockpit Fairing: As you know, Wunderlich offers 2 screens - sport and touring. I have both, but prefer the shorter sport screen for a more minimal look. The sport screen deflects the wind to my chest and shoulders, and the slightly taller touring screen brings the wind up to helmet level which increases turbulence at my height (5'8"). On my recent long trip to eastern Canada, I added a cheap windscreen extension to the touring screen which looked silly, but helped a little with wind and rain management. I think Wunderlich USA products are generally great, but increasingly expensive. I looked online this morning and saw a BMW R18 Headlight Fairing for sale by a company called REM Motorcycle Company that's significantly less. Don't know anything about this company, but it might be worth investigating. :)
