Transmission breather replaced. I hope this fixes the leak.
You had that done? ... that mechanic is going to love you (insert sarcastic grin here) an inexpensive part ... in a really hard to get to location  I hope that fixes your problem.

Yeah, they determined the leak was coming from the breather…. I hope they put everything back together correctly.

You go ahead and "hope"... Me, I'm basically taking everything apart and then fixing what the mechanics stripped, cracked, scratched and lost...

I was pissed after they replaced my headlight.. I was missing three $8 screws and two clips...

My thinking exactly DIY and know it is done right and with care. Mechanics don't have a 'Dog in that fight' and just do a job ... some very well .. some not so much .. just y 2¢ ;)

I’ve had nothing but great service from this dealer so I’m not worried.

I just read through the service report, here are the highlights.

  1. Removed L/R Battery covers, throttle body covers and airbox covers and confirmed leak coming from breather.
  2. Removed L/R throttle bodys, air filter, seperated air box from bracket and engine.
  3. Inspected breather valve, covered in oil, small hole present in exterior rubber. BMW approved replacement and running of bike w/o covers to confirm fix. Performed extended test ride to confirm leak no longer present.

4. Replaced all hardware that was easily accessible and within reach at the time of work performed.

So far the oil leak has not returned. My assumption is that the breather was pinched, punctured, cut, split or whatever during assembly. I just don’t see how it could be otherwise.

Mine has not returned either, so it might have been the breather after all ... sigh ... but I am glad you are good now as well ;)
