Oil filler wrench NOT FILTER WRENCH.

Can you tell me if the R18 oil filler wrench with the triangle head is the same size that all the other BMWs use or will I need to purchase a new one just for my r18?
Thanks in advance. I'm looking for the wrench to remove the cap that lets you pure oil in to the engine. Seems to be located on the head of the cylinder etc.

Same one as my R ninet..... same oil filter as well.... just look up oil filters and check.... same as GS 1200s etc.... though I don't know what triangle implies... mines a circle one. Oil filter is fully recessed into the sump with not a lot of room around it. Nothing like grounding and getting stuck on your sump to help with ones undercarrage knowledge.

I had to buy an oil filter wrench for my R18 because the R1200c wrench wouldn't fit. Different filter too.

I bought a generic one to spare marring the onboard one and allowing use of my torque wrench for install. In the ad for this knock-off tool both the R18 and R1250 etc are listed but I haven’t used it myself so can’t confirm yet. I suspect, however, that the tool is used across several models.

I changed mine on my R Nine T to a Gilles that accepts an Allen, probably going to do the same for the R18 (except probably a cheaper version since the cap isn't visible and doesn't need to be "pretty")--hate the stupid special tool BMW uses...

It is not the same as all but the same as many. My GS filter wrench is the same as my R18.

The one piece of advice I give everyone is to always use the exact filter wrench BMW uses… Always, every time. You don‘t have to get it from BMW; I love Beemer Boneyard‘s maintenance kits, you can get air oil, washers and wrench… even with oil! From them. The oil is cheaper than the store from them and the filters will beat BMW‘s inflated prices

It is the end of your screwdriver handle on the R18 screwdriver that comes with your bike

Just to put in my 2¢ ... I ripped the BMW filter out on my first oil change 5 years ago and replaced it with a K&N KN-164 and I can not tell any ill effects. The K&N has a hex for a wrench and comes off soooooo easy!
As for the filling side I found (something like) this:



Both work quite well, I use the socket one in the shop and the other one I keep in the saddle bag

... like I said ... just my 2¢

P.S.: My warranty is long gone and I always have done my own wrenching ... and prefer it that way
