Welcome, I guess a few pictures would help us visualize what you’ve taken on and where you think you want to go with it.👍

Welcome aboard... This a great topic and very interested in where this project might lead...

Agreed.. post some pictures and an overall description of the damage..

Yes, the crash bar was broken on both sides. I was surprised how cheaply the crash bars are made. I think they protect against an easy drop and nothing harder. Both valve covers have damage. I think bondo and black paint will correct. Biggest spend will be on a new speedometer. Hope to find one used. Need mirrors and brake/clutch master cylinder covers. Only surprise is a oil leak at the shifter. Found fob in saddle bag. No plastic key though.

Any recommendations on bar end mirrors?

If you're not in an immediate need.... I might have the chrome stock OEM mirrors and the chrome bar end weights; I'm waiting on the buyer of the project bike, to green light the selling the OEM take off parts...

I have a R18 Speedometer, chrome breast plate, and complete BMW OEM Bobber kit that I would sell. I did not end up using it for a project. $450 for the speedometer, $900 for the front plate without emblem, $1300 for the Bobbber kit....plus shipping depending on where you live. Replaced battery, topped of oil. She started right up. I've got an 1250RT, and the startup shake of the R18 still scared me. Someone should have warned me :). Was a little surprised it started with no speedometer. Good surprises are rare with a salvage bike.

I need to remove the right handlebar switchgear. My old eyes can't tell what type / size that little screw is. Would appreciate advice.

Anyone ever had an oil leak at the shifter lever.

After I find a speedometer, Charlotte BMW said no need to synch the ECU and speedometer. Bobs BMW said it would take 1 to 3 hours for the service tech to do the synch. Any opinions?

Old retired guy here that enjoys project bikes. Just picked up a salvage 2021 R18 Classic. Advance thank you for your opinions and experience.
Just curious, did you pick that up at an auction? Looks like a lot # on the side of the bike in the first picture.

Yes, Copart. $4,500 bid + $955 in fees = $5,455.

Noticed oil on floor under bike. Yikes! Bad surprise. Was dripping from shifter to the floor. Initially figured it would be the shifter seal but looking closer, that is not where the shifter linkage enters the engine case. Appears oil is dripping from the left intake snorkel (see pic) down onto the shifter. It's a slow leak, maybe 3 or 4 drips every 24 hours.

I'm thinking there is no reason oil should be in that area in the first place? Perhaps when the bike was wrecked, oil ran from the engine into the air box and is now slowly running back out? Although the intake snorkel should be sealed and not leak?

Thoughts?

My first thoughts were that exactly. During the accident, god knows what sort of forces acted on the bike that may have pushed oil to places where you wouldn’t normally find it. If the bike went upside down or on its side, most likely the hot oil from breather or something reached that area.
Try to dismantle the air filter and snorkel sections, it may offer you some clues, clean the lot and reassemble. I bet that will be the end of it.

You stated that you found the key fob and topped off the oil, and it started right up; any chance, you overfilled the oil level and perhaps the oil drip is a result of too much oil?

Good thought. I noticed the oil leak before I added more. Thank you.
