2022 R18 Classic
Had a price offered for my 2022 Classic today and to be honest i was quite shocked , full BMW service history immaculate condition 13,000 mile £5600 pounds !!!!! what has happened to BMW ? time to move on i think. Are chinese bikes going to be the downfall of ,major brands ?.

I don´t follow your train of thought.
You had already decided to move on or is the resale value reason to move on?

Imo it is a case of the motorcycle market going through a generational change. The market for the old style big bikes is literally dying out. Simple as that imo.

I agree, buy at a reasonable price to you and enjoy it.. I never understood when people buy things like cars and only use them with all the protections like seat covers trying to preserve it for the "resale value" all your doing is saving it for the next owner... and he's going to do what I suggest... buy at a reasonable price and enjoy it for what it is to its max...

Young men are not riding motorcycles like we did decades ago. I stopped by the local Harley dealership last week and saw 8 trikes on the floor! In all the years I have stopped there (I drive by twice a day during commute) they have had maybe 1 trike on the floor.
Right now the entire inventory is basically StreetGlides, RoadGlides, or trikes.

agree with you on that. Im glad my buddy did not buy a street glide about 2 years ago, it was high! I keep trying to talk people into the BMW bike world cause you can pick them up for a reasonable price but some are harder to convince...

Geez. Whoever it was that quoted just doesn’t want your business (for whatever reason) and threw out a bargain basement number on the off chance you are desperate and took it. They'd have been better off just saying they don’t deal with BMWs, like has happened to me over the years. In my experience jumping brands rarely seems to work out without losing the shirt off your back. I hope it wasn’t a BMW a dealer that you are talking about btw!

The UK bike market is being turned upside down towards smaller capacity 350’s from the likes of Honda, BSA and RE and we may as well accept the fact that our bikes, the luxury, high end heavy cruisers are the dinosaurs, dying out.

we may as well accepts that wé the buyers of those bikes are dying out :ROFLMAO:
Yep. We are, not sure about where you are in Spain but I rarely (if ever) see anyone under the age of I’d say 45 on a bike these days, most blokes are my age (56) or older judging by the lack of hair or grey hair!

I agree. Unless the bike is no longer for you because of health, practicality or other factors, I would stick with it. It is one of a kind, timeless, reliable, dependable and capable cruiser. It may even go up in value in a few years due to its uniqueness and low numbers. I like a few bikes out there for different reasons but I love my R18B.

Well. I’ve just got back in from a trip out (read jolly) to a multi bike dealer about an hour away from me. Note no BMW’s sold there. The place was rammed with bikes, a blend of new and used. Anyway, I came away thinking there was nothing that I would actually want to buy instead, not really, sure some nice bikes but when I think about everything we probably take for granted with our bikes. Namely, the build quality, the timeless elegance and the cleanliness of design (no untidy cables or ugly brackets/welds/plasticky trim that kinda thing), there really is nothing else like our R18 (all versions) out there.

Honda’s so called flop, the F6C1800 Valkyrie couldn’t be given away at one time (2014/2015), I bought one so had personal interest in them and the market. It was a lovely bike. Nowadays they are actually worth more than they were back then and values are strong, if you can find one. Anibal may be right, if we hold our nerve there is no reason why it couldn’t work out like that for us. I get nothing but compliments everywhere I go on mine, it’s easy to read online haters because they shout the loudest, it’s the modern way. Who knows 🤷‍♂️

My response to that @Rufus is that I do not give a sh@t.
I bought the retro R18 because Í like it and paid what Í thought a fair price.

And yes, the quality of design, build etc is simply top tier.
Whatever the reason*, pre-owned these bikes make awesome good VFM.

* I think it is simply the market, us, going tbe way of the dinosaurs. BMW marketing got that wrong, just like HD are experiencing.

The R18's in the US are going for low dollars. These bikes in the US have not been popular and dealers are dumping them. BMW way over estimated demand. I just purchased my R18B for less than half the list price. They took almost $13K off the price. It was a brand new 2023 model - It was just taken out of the crate before I bought it. That being said - I was intrigued with the R18 and thought it was unique bike, probably not for everyone. I did not care that it was not popular, I did not buy it for that reason, I just liked it.

You joined the party late though and probably paid a much better price for yours. Many got their fingers burnt paying MSRP or close to it when they first came out, and that’s a bitter pill. This is my second R18. Hammo was the OP for this thread and I can empathize with him because I’ve had to take a haircut. However, I intend to keep my Roctane so it doesn’t really matter now but if you do want a change of bike it is an issue. For you obviously not.

Well thanks for all the info gentlemen a lot of common sense replies maybe i,m just getting a grumpy old *it , anyhow as i,m approaching 75 years on this planet i will not be getting rid of my Classic for a long time to come , i have to agree its a great piece of engineering .

Kuddos to you @Hammo .

The basic model is in Europe still listed for 23k€ which imo is what this quality bike indeed is worth.
After the first two years the sales slowed down to just about a standstill now.
Sales of low mileage repo bikes are not helping obviously. Those pull the rug from under the whole market.
Even though it got me a relative bargain this is obviously on the whole a negative thing.

Glad to hear you feel that way at 75 years young . Enjoy you bike my friend, you have a timeless machine in your hands 😉

My local dealer has eight 2025 R18 in stock. All offered at full MSRP. They also have two 2024s with a $7,000 discount off of MSRP, which is what I got when I bought my 2023 last April. When I spoke to the mechanic while my bike was being serviced about a month ago, he said they service a lot of them and they are pretty popular.
