R18 Louvered Performance Plates

I'm in South Australia.... 3c (37f) here this morning. Anyway, this was designer/wind tunnel guy's arm ..... not fabricating guy... or tough R18 rider guy.... or the default "don't give a shit" old guy.
 
OK.... all done now (2nd side only took 1 hour).... will test ride it tomorrow. The look is growing on me.... maybe put a bit of stainless mesh at the mouth of them (or black mesh). Also maybe drill a 2mm hole at the bottom so they won't hold water.

I took my lambs wool seat cover off for this photo (didn't want to trigger Ulrich again with more fury critters....)

Anyway, I'm going to tell people they are powerful "ShuRoos" .... non Aussies will need to google that...

Where is your engine guard from?

OK, the look is growing on me despite my initial skepticism. The inverted version moves upwards from "no, nay, never" to "something only an R18 owner could love". But I'm still betting on form over function, so do let us know if it actually does anything. I've convinced myself my standoff solution made a discernible (but not actually measurable) difference, but then I drink way too much strange South Australian beer to be reliable.

I'm also waiting for some refined European fashion commentary on the weird blue rug thing extending into the previous photo. My sense is that it may well clash with croc skin vests, but I'll wait for Petrus' wisdom on whether there is a market for whatever it is in Spain.

Thread 'Stainless steel Hornig engine guards / crash bars'

Was debating whether to go with OEM chrome crash bars, or try the stainless steel ones from Hornig. Have to say these stainless bars turned out pretty nice, and are about hundred bucks cheaper than OEM. Some of the others I've seen had a kind of pear shade to them, but these are a bit more horizontal on the top which I think looks better.
Just make sure you get the bars adjusted right so they don't touch the frame before putting any Locktite on. Easy install.

I went for my 1st proper ride yesterday with the suckers. Bike ran well (to be expected) and nothing broke or fell off (always good). All windy country roads and lots of throttle and speed into the naughty part of the speedo range.

Anyway, was it notably better? Unfortunately, I want to believe, but there is no way to tell. For example, yesterday was a blue sky perfect winter day, cold dense air (around 44f), so "positive Noel" felt the bike ran a bit better, whilst "doubtful Noel" would say the air was cooler and denser then normal ya twat, that is what you might have noticed.

The consensus of all my Noel's now is: my R18 is definitely faster because it has wind tunnel developed carbon fibre speed tubes just like a Pagani (the upturned tail on the R18 "speedtubes" is same as the rear of their Codalunga speedster).

Picture.... so you now can't unsee the uncanny similarities....

I'm now going to get some decals to put on them so I'm extra professional looking.

As a side note.... it was reported by the boys that they felt extra cool riding the R18 yesterday (translation: the upturned speedtubes tail may direct a nice bit of air to one's nuts... so a new unchallenged benefit of "high speed hot nut correctors").

Anyway.... ordered 1802cc thing for each speed tube and 4 titanium black 5mm bolts... a Pagani has about 2,000 titanium bolts ($120k's worth) so my R18 can have 4 no worries mate.

Oops.... just ordered the carbon fibre bits posted above.

Went for a ride yesterday and found myself in one of those poorly thought through overtaking situations, full throttle full rev range 3rg gear pull (so maybe 40mph to 75mph).... the bike just ripped.... maybe the tubes "do do something" was my post pondering conclusion.

Anyway, was a slowish person towing a caravan (trailer in american), I moved towards the centre of the road to look ahead of it and ran into a biggish pot hole, a real slammer, that led to a tightish overtake decision (instant f...k it thought). Instincly I did the dirt bike thing.... arse up and back.... bit of throttle.... let the fork emulators and wilbers rear shock do their thing.... mid controls make a lot of sense.

Yes... I'm surely onto something. Just purchased some carbon fibre underpants....... every bit of me down there needs more performance these days, will report back on the performance gains when I take the wife for a ride later.... if nothing else.... I'm hoping my farts will no longer stink.
