Hi, I just purchased my R18 Classic two days ago. I purchased Vance & Hines since a local dealer had in stock. V&H fits on the standard R18 but not on the classic due to the saddlebag support mount on the bottom, which is located right next to the exhaust. Did you have any issues? I have to return it and get a refund. What do you think about the sound between those two slip on? I really like the look of your freedom exhaust. Thanks and let me know. Tom
Hello Hanse, I am returning my Vance & Hines. Have you compare the two? I heard V&H without a baffle and it was pretty loud. I am looking for one with very deep sound.
Took your advise and installed 4.5 freedom slip on. However, no instruction and having a hard time installing the heat shield. Are we going to have any warranty issues because of the slip on? Have you check with a dealership by any chance?
Hi Hanse, The OEM pipes were more straight line and Freedom 4.5 is bigger pipe so the angle is more upward. The heat shield doesn't fit end to end. Freedom didn't provide me with the heat shield, I have to use the OEM. I removed the heat shield mounting bracket from the OEM to the smaller pipe right before the exhaust pipe and still not flush because the angle is different now. The second bracket on the smaller pipe is not even there, the second brackets on the OEM were welded. It seems like the manual you showed had the heat shield provided by Freedom and these were the fishtail style with thinner heat shield. BTW, my bike is 2021 R18 Classic. I am new to the forums, how do I attach some pics for you?
With the freedom pipes you will still use the original heat shields. But freedom makes two different models. One for the classic, one for the first edition. The difference being the first edition comes stock with fishtails, whereas the classic has straight pipes stock. So the FP kits have different parts for each.
Did you get the correct FP kit? You can call FP and ask for Martin for help.
