Help, I may have lost my mind ...

I own twenty bikes at present. If I had space for more, I'd own more. Amongst those are two Buell Lightnings (different models, slightly different engines, entirely different states of tune), two EBRs (different models, same engine in different states of tune), three Victories (different...

What did you do to your R18 today?

The best money is in parting them out. They bring their own (generic) front wheels and drive them out chocked on a trailer. In your case, two beauties for half the trouble each. Consider relocating the anchor so you can chain the swingarm below the bike. Keep the chain as short as possible...

What did you do to your R18 today?

Nice, but will that tool roll not take some paint off the front fender if you hit a serious bump in the road? Especially with the buckles facing down?

Sporty R18 - Long term project

Interesting mashup. Those silencers are (were) intended for a Yamaha VMX17 - mounted upside here, meaning you had to remove the Akrapovič decals. Black Dog would have been happy to see at least one inmate copy his much-touted seat concept. Not much travel to be had on these front forks, no...

    Customs R18

Corbin has clearly taken a liking to the R18. This is simply exquisite! https://www.corbin.com/projects/

New leg rests installed, quite happy!

Wow. A bit industrial up close. Plumbed-on washboards? Don't knock it till you've tried it, I know, but I am not convinced that they are safe either. I cannot imagine getting my legs off them in a hurry should I need to. And one size fit all?

ALMOST was a DIY on installing battery trickle charger, but stopped when realized bike might not like direct trickle charging (photos in thread)

I've got my fused Optimate(R) battery-charger chord connected directly to the battery terminals, atop other existing cables connecting there - all with a smidge of silicon grease to keep things proper. And I connect the charger's SAE connector directly to that, where I have it protruding out...

    R18 TRIKE

This here is a proper Trike - 3WD to boot. 1972 Kawasaki H2 powered - 750cc two-stroke triple, the original widow-maker - sounds like Ravel's Boléro at full trot; short version Ravel Boléro (Valery Gergiev, London Symphony Orchestra) - YouTube, full version Bolero (Maurice Ravel) Valery Gergiev...

    FRONT FENDER for R18

Aluminum is not a good choice for front fenders, especially the softer alu-alloys. They tend to form as easily as they tend to develop fatigue cracks. I do not think that there is a single OEM that fits aluminum front fenders, not currently anyway. They either do steel (adding fork bracing)...

    POLL: OVERHEATING

That is pretty hot. Good quality mineral-based engine oils will start breaking down (change chemically with corresponding detrimental mechanical property consequences - viscosity and lubricity) at around 275 Fahrenheit. (Fully) Synthetic oils are often very optimistically touted to around 450...

    POLL: OVERHEATING

Same here. We can lane-split in South Africa. Its been like that forever, so motorists even give way when they see you coming. But the R18 motor is as wide as other big rigs fitted with highway bars, so I often need to crawl along pedestrianly with traffic, at least for short stretches. My...

    POLL: OVERHEATING

I do not think I implied that your Indian overheats, and one would not degut headers to try and cure that anyway. Mine runs much cooler behind the Clearview(R) windscreen since I degutted and TLHB/MCX-coated the stock item. Perhaps the Rinehart(R) header's ceramic coating is more aesthetically...

    POLL: OVERHEATING

Whatever helps us sleep at night. The R18 will be my eighth ride to receive a Trail-Tec(R) kit, and it uses a shroud-less best-in-class Spahl(R) fan. It is exactly for puttering around town and being stuck in traffic. The fan won't be running at 60-75 mph - it has a sensor mounted on the oil...

    POLL: OVERHEATING

My Indian actually runs cooler since I de-cored the stock head-pipe. I cut it open myself, gutted it, rewelded and got it ceramic coated: Thermal Barrier Coating (TLHB) internally and Cermakrome(R) Metallic Ceramic Coating (MCX) externally. MCX resembles polished aluminum. TLHB is an...

    POLL: OVERHEATING

I install oil cooler fans on all my air-cooled V-twins and will do same on the R18. Air-cooled engines live a tough life and I guess the EURO-5 R18 even more so. https://www.amazon.com/Trail-Tech-732-FNA1-Temperature-Switching/dp/B019HS6UI6. There is ample space behind the oil cooler and I am...

    Tube or Tubeless

Agreed - those wheels absolutely need to be spoked, and correctly spoked, more so on the Classic as you said. The Outex(R) Kits come with everything you need in the correct quantities and I do tend to get lost with all the different 3M product numbers at times. They really should clean up...

    Tube or Tubeless

Outex(R) is the answer. R18C provided a link to Woody's Wheel Works in an earlier post. I get mine from Woody's since they cannot be had from Ronin (in Japan) any longer - that proprietor passed on I believe. Outex can probably be deemed 'standard fitment' on potentially all period-correct...

    Customs R18

Motorcycle Art. Thank God for 'each to their own'. This Build highlights one of my pet peeves with overpriced 'Customs'. There is a LOT of engineering involved with chopping frames and fiddling with front-ends. And invariably potential consequences that might pan out as a tank-slapping event...

    Tube or Tubeless

Shocking! I presume you live in a first-world country? Where BMW Assist provided a tow service that ties a motorcycle down on its side-stand? Are either of them aware of the invention of the Motorcycle Wheel Chock, I wonder? Should we send some over from Africa?

    Closer reach handle bars

I've been sticking with it since April 2020, when I configured mine online, printed a hardcopy and rode out to the closest Motorrad dealer, a hundred miles from where I live. They tried hard to sell me an R-nine-T instead. And when my R18 finally arrived in September 2020, it looked quite the...
