    The no clutch motorcycle

"You have to live with one for a while to really understand the pro's and con's of different"....... I'm proud of myself for not making a smart arse comment on this....

    The no clutch motorcycle

Same here.... aside from the few with some sort of injury, might as well just watch people riding on utube.

    Stiff rear suspension

Given how poorly they spec'd the original shock for both my R18 and r9t, then I'd be 99.9% sure a +20mm Wilbers would still be a HUGE improvement no matter how they "changed" the shock. I'm as sure on this as I am of our government not abolishing taxes any time soon.

    Time to go Chinese ?

In the absence of not knowing much.... I'd disconect the new battery, charge it, reconnect it and try again. From what I understand your old battery was drained to 0v.... so there will always be the outstanding question of what did that I guess.... corrosion on the +ve? Anyway, BMW dealler...

Is this rust and what should be done?

Haha.... I always click on the posters info to check for context (ie location, model etc when it isn't specified)..... it's pretty amazing how diversified things can be. There are even people here that have "riding seasons".... Fwiw.... one will occasionally find some post about a bit of...

Is this rust and what should be done?

In my country (no salted roads etc) this would not be a "A" grade used bike, more a bike with a story (ridden in rain, stored outside etc). I'd need to compare it to others on the market price wise, condition etc. I assume it is a HK bike. FWIW..... the drive shaft is nickle coated, not chromed.

What did you do to your R18 today?

Australia just did the same (took a bit of tax off it for 3 months). For some reason (stupidity, greed etc?) Australia only carries a bit over 30days of fuel reserves.... we are mostly short of diesel at the moment... and it's heading towards crop sewing time.... go figure.

    Tool bag tools?

On my r9t (tubeless) then airpump (it's so cute I had to buy it), tyre plug kit and multi torques tool and roadside assist from there on. On my R18 mostly just roadside assist (normal auto club one covers biking). I've had one need for a "R18 roadside" assist, and it took 3 guys, so even a...

Spent some at Unit Garage on it as well.....

    Opinion R1300RT

Sounds very rational to me (in a not married kind of way, if married I'd personally go with "brave").....

    Opinion R1300RT

Fwiw.... I have a r9t (scrambler) as well..... and favour the R18 90% of the time.... the R18 stirs the senses 2x more.... my r9t is mostly for dirt roads with a sealed road thrash on the way.

What did you do to your R18 today?

I looked back at gas prices in 2012.... they were $1.40 per liter in Aussie land... now they are about double that.... fact is everything mostly doubles in price every 10 or so years. So having established that everthing is normal, I went for a ride and used 7 litres of 2026 priced gas...

    Customs R18

Yeah.... if in the market for a one I think I'd consider this.... it's probally about a $4k premium over stock.... a bike for my feeling tough (with a hint of different) days.... you could ride straight over road kill (and electric scooter/bike riders) with the 23" and a wilbers +20.....

    Customs R18

This is for sale in Aussie land.... custom by Rogue in Western Aust.... $22k aud. See. https://www.bikesales.com.au/bikes/details/2023-bmw-r-18-roctane-my24/OAG-AD-25634694/

    RSD Discount

Discounting the idea of discounting, has got to count for something.....
  18. Noelpolar

    Exhaust Servo

That's nice. You'll probally get use to it and want more..... such is life. My suspicions are that the mod is better on the "non fish tale exhausts". A way to double noise for under $100 can be done..... and your able to have it on or off. Mostly only good for the occasional shorter ride though.

3rd party oil filter for the R18?

I preffer my filter recessed in a bit..... so no k&n for me. It took 4 of us (me and 3 new friends) to drag this back. Front wheel ABS didn't like the shaley surface..... a quick stop/poor decision after a neck wasp sting. Pretty sure the wasp was much bigger then the one on the lhs of...

Steering Damper - how do you check if its actually working?

Whilst riding for a fair bit the other day with no hands, for the first time the front end did a little shake (some road irregularity no doubt). I applied my high school physics/math brain and determimed that might have been worse without the dampener..... so that's my process.
