You are right in that the R18 is the perfect choice for a sidecar but with one reservation. The larger tank on the R18B and R18TC give you a better cruising range and even then I wouldn't rule out your jerry can when riding in certain parts of the U.S. or Canada. Throw in a prairie crosswind and...
I have owned an R18, an R18 Classic and currently own an R18TC w/sidecar. Is your Niimbus attached to the R18? Suspension and fuel tank size are just two of the major differences between the two bikes. There are several other differences. More importantly what do you want the bike to do? What...
You shouldn't compain.............hook up a Hannigan sidecar to the right side of the bike and then look for that inspection window. At least I don't have to do too much to have it setting upright. The cell phone has been my solution for several years and sidecar rigs.
John, think of it this way. All of the R18 riders out there that just had another great day riding aren't sitting down and coming on this site to let us all know what we already know; that the R18 is a ton of fun to ride. Personally I like it's transmission better than any BMW I've owned or have...
I can understand the attraction to the GoldWing and I also believe you are correct in that the Wing is not a sexy bike. I was a Honda service manager back when the GL1000s roamed the earth and if you wanted bags, top box and fairing it was spelled Vetter. 1975 in England was the first time I...
I've owned a Ural, I've managed a BMW motorcycle dealership, I currently own two BMWs with Hannigans and my first sidecar was a Velorex in 1974. I've read the above submissions and no one is mentioning critical things about owning a hack'd R18. I obviously like Hannigans and my two Hannigans...
I don't see the Lewis Leather jacket I have in their catalogue anymore but then that was 1974. I bought my one piece racing leathers there that day, too. The prices have changed a little.
To talk about sidecars in strictly a mechanical sense is not to understand sidecars. There is a human side to sidecars that only sidecar people are witness to. A person may hate the motorcyclist that goes by in the street but does not hesitate to talk to the sidecar rider taking his dog for a...
The Cycletrader price is a retail price. The dealer is quoting you a trade-in price. These are two totally different prices. Everyone seems to be missing that point. Also, the Cycletrader price is what they are wanting for the bike, not necessarily what the bike will sell for.
