2023 BMW R18B and 2023 BMW R18C
IMG_0112.webpFirst time poster. Been lurking and looking for a bike. I am in the process of looking at this bike. BMW financing at 1.9%. OTD price is under 20k. Bike has 212 miles on it.

Trading my 2023 Honda Rebel 1100T DCT.

Opinions on the deal? Anything to watch out for on the 2023 model? Going to be new to BMW, so give me the straight skinny, please.

Also, will need to ride it 300 miles home. This means the first service will be due soon. I would like to do it myself. Oil change and checking valves are easy but what tools do I need (i.e. torx bits and what about clearing the maintenance light)?

Thank you for any help to the newbie…

I bought my 2023 R18 Transcontinental with 0% financing from BMW. So maybe check into that - I’m not sure if the 0% financing is over now, but I don’t think so.

Can’t help you with maintenance, as I prefer my dealer to do it and I’m at that age where my back hurts if bending over too much.

Pull the trigger, you won’t be disappointed. I have the exact same colour scheme and it is absolutely gorgeous.
If you can, try to get a service package. You will only save about $50.00 if you were to do the maths based on today’s prices but the main thing is that it will protect you from further inflation. I paid for the 5 years one as it was the best value for money.
If she is under warranty and you decide not to go for the service pack, I will strongly recommend you to have the service done by the dealer. There are many folks that would probably disagree and that is fine but it is just my way of thinking. My line of business is risky management, hence I am that way inclined.

Welcome to the forum you're going to love your new BMW :) Oil changes are pretty easy to do, all the maintenance is easy to do most the torx sizes are 25 30 40 and just a couple sizes larger if you do custom or serious repairs maybe 50 and 60 on occasion. on the service reminder lite and other trouble code clearing you need a service tool called GS911. Have fun.

BMW is offering 0% APR financing and $2,000 customer cash on New 2023 R18 B models; it's on the website and see the dealership can roll you into it..

Ask for the 600 mile break in service to be included with the sale...

I am in Pa, dealer is 312 miles away. Doubt I return for service.

Yay. We'll be twinning. I just got mine less than a month ago and it's just like yours. I'm still keeping my 2021 Rebel 1100 (not DCT version) though.

Watch out for stripping the threads on the seat bolt when removing and adding back the seat. I had to learn about helicoil thread repair kits to fix mine after its coil got tweaked.

Keep a tiny 2 inch square microfiber cloth tucked under the buttons by the passenger seat strap. It will be handy for wiping off fingerprints from the chrome such as the saddlebag levers and gas cap door. Or, line them with clear protective film like I did.

Oh, and the phone storage bay on the tank is pretty much useless unless you have a small phone and no case. Sales person kept saying it had wireless charging but it doesn't. There's a USB C cable inside that you plug into your phone.

Aliexpress is a good place for other accessories. I tried looking at other places like amazon, google, or ebay and couldn't find a good variety of stuff.

I find it easier to mount the bike cop style from the right. Also, it's easiest to straighten the bike off the kickstand by first turning the handlebars all the way to the right full lock. Most people just straighten the bars and then straighten the bike but turning all the way right is better. Never had to worry about this on my Rebel.

Carplay is better than the built in Motorrad system and the clunky control wheel interface. To me, the speakers on the fairing and saddlebags are useless. I have speakers in my helmet. I would rather take the bike speakers out and make them storage bays.

Beautiful bike. It will feel strange compared to your Rebel but don’t panic, you will soon gel with it and learn how to get the best out of it. These are not revvy engines, they pull, so learn to short shift early and ride the torque. 👍 Everything you need to know will be on the forum somewhere so grab a brew and hit that ‘search’ button.

I used the phone charger on every single ride; I have a Google 7 phone without a case (I'm a baller ...🤓) and I use the Navigation mapping and media music interface which is all stock on the Model B.

Speaker settings, I have my bike setup as BALANCED; at 70 MPH+, the music sounds pretty good to my ears.

Same with the mapping, I'll set it to a destination and choose "Windy Roads", avoid Tolls and Highways and see where the day takes me..

Interfacing your phone to the bike's TFT system is key to getting the most out of your bike, if you are looking to play music and using the Navigation function. I do the following:

Set my phone to " Do Not Disturb", no text messages and phone calls

Start up either Prime or YouTube music (downloaded tracks)

And then finally, launch the BMW Connect App, Start Up the bike and everything seems to come together Bluetooth and Wi-Fi screen cast wise..

I added all of the best attributes that the TC has stock in terms of wind management and added them to my Model B; while, maintaining the Bagger look or perhaps the "chunky" Bagger look:

Fairing Winglets
Lower Leg Wind Protection
Engine Protection Bar
Auxiliary Lights & Directionals
Passenger Floor Boards

I also fell into an exhaust upgrade, which I don't think I could afford today if I had to pay full price; I went with the Jekyll & Hyde exhaust, which added a nice growl to the throttle response and absolutely maintains the original look of the Model B.

And like most on the forum, I've removed the servo motor module which controls flaps within the exhaust (10 to 20 min. Job), and suppress any error codes with ServoBuddy modules; they basically trick the ECU into thinking the servo module is still installed and functional.

Again, CONGRATS and enjoy the new bike and be safe ... We'll all look forward to any contributions you share and love to read upgrades and such...

Thanks for the great info. I have a Pixel 8 pro and was worried about the fit. We shall see...

I am about 2 hours away from the dealership. It is 6:20am now and they open at 9am. So excited!
