Black Roctane & Red R18
Afternoon everyone. Well, after a lot of consideration and keen interest in what’s been discussed on the forum this last year (dwindling stocks of new bikes) I decided a while ago to try and bag myself a 2nd R18. I’ve had my eye on a particular red one for about 6 months and been in contact with that dealer (in person) every 4 weeks or so asking if they are doing any deals on it yet, without success. It was listed at full MSRP for quite a while. Anyhow, over the last few days I’ve been back & forth making my case again that it really needs to come home with me now and blow me down, I got a phone call this morning offering me a great deal, so I’ve gone for it and bought it, I am absolutely chuffed to bits. Will have to move some stuff in the garage to get it in next to my Roctane but that’s a job for the weekend. I love the Mars Red combination with the grey engine/satin finishes. It looks gorgeous (to me anyway). Hope you like it 👍

Congrats, but aren’t the Roctane and classic somewhat similar? Can you walk us through why the classic as a companion to the Roctane. I’m waiting on a deal on the Bagger or Transcontinental as a possible 2nd bike, but want to see how the Roctane does on the highway. Here is the LA area most of the r18 deals have been scooped up. Guess the weather has bikes moving again.
 
Hi needtolose, no probs. The Roctane is great, Fantastic even. I can’t fault it really, it does everything I need and I find it very comfortable to ride with my weight, height etc. I don’t do motorways so sustained higher speeds where a fairing of sorts would be a benefit isn’t a priority for me and I definitely don’t need more luggage capacity. It’s very black though and quite a moody looking bike which is nice but…….

sometimes I do miss the bling and (relatively) smaller size of the original bikes (I had a FE in black before my Roctane). This red R18 on the other hand absolutely ‘pops’, I love the colour, with the spoked wheels, satin finishes to the engine covers, hand painted pinstripes, lovely speedo gauge, splash of chrome detailing here and there and then of course, the fishtails. Love em. Yes they are fairly quiet but that doesn’t bother me.

I’ve considered all the other brands too but honestly there’s nothing out there that interests me really. I know there are online haters but honestly everywhere I go on mine I get genuine compliments. People think they look amazing. There was a new metallic blue R18B in the showroom that looked fab-u-lous but I don’t need or want such a big bike.

So, in summary. I couldn’t get rid of my Roctane because I like it too much (and you can’t get them anymore here so when it’s gone it’s gone kinda thing) and this Red bike will give me everything I like already in a different style. I couldn’t afford to pay full MSRP and tbh I would be silly doing it anyway even if I could (because we all know what the bike market is like) but when this opportunity arose and I got the call I had to take it. As I type this I’m as confident as I can be that these two will be my last bike purchases. Keepers in other words. Hope that makes sense.
 
I know you said you would keep it standard, I always say that to my wife to avoid the “how much needs to be changed” question, but fyi some of the official accessories have had the prices lowered a lot. I picked up the RSD front engine trim for just over £80. The V&H pipes are down to £409 for mine and are in that order for the R18.

😂😂😂 I do something similar. When I do my research on things I like and would like to buy, I stare at my phone screen, act very surprised and make sure my exclamation is heard “oh wow, that is less than half price” She would not have a clue but she loves a bargain, so that is my license to buy. Of course, it was full price but I get away and avoid the same questions 😂😂😂😂
 
Ok. I get it now. Those pinstripes are something else. 🔥🔥🔥 Your new bike belongs in the living room. I actually know a guy here who runs a tea bar and actually keeps his bike in his kitchen. One day.
 
I have really come to like my R18. It rides better the more miles I put on it. I commute 28 miles one way to work and am riding it Monday.
The red looks terrific. The "Weekender" seat is a great addition.

Thanks mate 👍. I agree, they do grow on you these bikes and IMHO they have one of the best riders POV out there.
 
Once you figure out the proper preload setting and the right seat, there are so nice to ride. And yes, it's never going to be a GS, that we know.
