Adaptive Headlight Recall Update

Looks like mine may not be the "grommet" issue. The actual light assembly within the sealed beam has cocked to the right so that it sends a low beam off to the right and high. Result -- low beam = high beam being fired off at about 5 degrees to the right - dazzles everyone approaching (especially large semi-trailers [tractor/trailer - Lorry -- all depends on what part of this rock you call home])

Yep, that’s why the recall was issued in the states. The mounts for the reflector that moves and makes the headlight “adaptive” break and cause it to be wonky. The grommets are just the “fix” along with the replaced headlight.

The actual fix is easier than all the fuss it generated. I waited 4 months to take delivery of my TC. (It as worth the wait).
I picked her up July 7th and have nearly 4K gloriius miles logged. The grommet did the trick. My dealer was very supportive, too.

I was dorking around with the GS-911 OBD-II maintenance tool this weekend; there's an ability to test the functionality of the adaptive headlight, where it cycles through each of the lighting elements, and completely rotates the reflector array in both directions.

I tried loading the video; however, it's too large and I'll try and load it up in YT later.

BMW Australia are ahead of the curve. They have a large inventory of adaptive headlights. My replacement is due by Fri 16 August 24.
 
Finally got my light done From Ottawa Motorrad. The service guy said mine was the only one he seen that was actually broken. Im pretty sure it was because i had an imbalanced front tire or or flat spot from when i bought it. made my light break apart from too much vibration. Crossed fingers it lasts now.
 
Update - BMW Australia preempted the adaptive headlight issue and preordered numerous units to hold in stock. No questions asked - straight swap out. Only unfortunate part for me, my dealership (Teammoto Springwood) has to retrofit a replacement dash-chrome panel (why it's called that bemuses everyone - it's the dash panel that surrounds the analogue gauges) but the part was on back-order. Credos to BMW though, I noticed the smallest of manufacturing imperfections beneath the logo and above the TFT chrome surround that was clearly a fault in quality assurance - again no questions asked - straight out replacement... it apparently did not fit with BMW's moniker for build quality. So now I have to take the bike back and the unfortunate technicians have to completely pull the front end off [again!] to replace it.

Hello mate - I'm George from the Redlands and I bought a 2023 R18 TC from Greg at Springwood in 2024.
As part of the new bike purchase I was told it had a recall on the adaptive headlight also.
Recently I asked BMW Australia about the recall and they tell me that my 2023 is exempt and not affected.
Something doesn't sound right?

Did you get yours replaced by Springwood as part of the recall?

My dash has been apart at least four times. When I changed out the handle bars, when I first took it in to look at why the headlight was point up to high (missing grommets), to do the head lamp recall and my checking out something else. After I got it back from the headlight recall, my dash started to rattle. I sounds like its from that TFT bezel. My guess is the clips that hold it in are loose from being removed multiple times.

If it has an adaptive headlight - then it is subject to the recall. My bike is a 2024 model (yours is a 2023), I can't see how the adaptive headlight would have been better in the MY23 than in the MY24. Sounds like BMW trying to wriggle their way out of it. Check back with Te ammoto Springwood (I presume that's where you bought it). I had no problems with them at all.

Actually, I shall correct myself. My TC is a late MY23 build [Oct or Nov from memory, purchased in April 24). It was the subject of the recall, so Geo Z - yours has to be also subjected to recall. My headlight last <3000km's before it failed... Got high-beamed all the way from Sydney to Brisbane on the M1 - could not for the life of me work out why.... that was until I noticed that my low beam was shooting diagonally accross the road and into the face of oncoming trucks. Cars weren't bothered, because it shot over the top of them, but trucks.... squarely in the face.

My '21 Classic Dark Nomad has the adaptive headlight. But my vin says no recall for headlight. It did have the reverse recall via the vin number search on BMW's web site. I wonder, is there a way to see if the updated part is installed? Is there a part number?
