my dealer could not find a part number to order for the r18b, don't know if it is a supply chain thing or if it would be different for r18's w/o bags. I ended up buying Wunderlich back rest and luggage rack. Quality stuff.

BMW Must be missing out on sales of these backrests! My dealer Ocean in Plymouth found the back rest support part number from the 'individualisation' 'accessories finder' section of the Motorrad web. However the pad is a separate item with its own number not displayed on the Motorrad web!
Ocean opened up another site, I assume an internal thing and located the pad number.
I have been waiting almost 2 weeks for delivery but nothing yet. I am told it has to come from Germany.
Maybe I too will go down the Wunderlich route!

I have it installed on my Bagger.

Note: This is with a TransContinental Comfort seat, which is substantially thicker than a Bagger seat, and 0.75" thicker than even the standard TC seat. It'll be higher up on the passengers back with a bagger seat, though my passenger likes it where it currently is.

The picture shows what appears to be connection points for an addition, maybe a small rack?
Correct. There's a small black rack that BMW designed to mount to these ~10mm holes in the bracket.

BMW discontinued this part # in December, then re-introduced it in January, though they haven't actually produced any as far as I can tell. I've got a parts TSARA case open regarding the part number for this, hoping to actually be able to obtain one. The parts hotline said IF they make any, it MIGHT be available around June. I'm actually in the middle of playing around with designing my own in the interim, as it'd be a great thing to have for long trips.

For anyone else that wants a part number for this.

Note: the 'kit' is just the bracket, cap and hardware for the cap to mount to the bracket. The seat comes with hardware for the seat. 4 M10X35-8.8 bolts are required to be ordered to mount the bracket. The luggage rack part number is not shown because the part doesn't exist at the moment, but shows the intended design of the luggage rack.
The bracket and rack are painted gloss black.

To install, you remove your side cases and bolt the M10s through the case rack in to the bracket. If you're careful, or have a second pair of hands to hold the cases, you can do this without cutting the zip ties / disconnecting the case cables. Very simple install.
