Bmw r18 valve noise

I picked up a new bmw r18 and after getting done with my first ride home, I noticed there's a decent amount of ticking from the valves. It's the same amount and same volume of ticking on both cylinders. I just wanted to know if that's normal?

Almost certainly normal. Compare what you're hearing with a video like

to confirm.

Sounds similar. I'll take a video when I get home. Im not used to the boxer yet, but it's definitely way more fun then the Indian scout.

2 completely different engines, The R18 does not sound like my K1600B or my R1200RT or even my 1989 FXR.
You should listen to a 1964 Corvair.

A "decent amount of ticking" is subjective. Probably nothing abnormal. Coming from many years of HD I soon learned the best cures for hearing minor engine noises were either removing the windshield or buying louder mufflers!!!

I picked up mine two days ago and noticed the same thing, but it seems totally normal. I would add to @Gaylord Poe ’s suggestions : ear plugs.

I think the loud pipes solution is best. But just want to make sure the tick was normal. But this how to reverse video, their motor sounds just like mine.

Solid lifters tend to tick even when properly adjusted.

That is because, like an air head, it is a pushrod motor with solid lifters. It is a pushrod motor because an overhead cam motor would have made the motor another 6 inches, 150mm wider.
