Change your fluids often. This is your reminder to stay on top of it.
Allegedly BMW changed the final drive/tranny fluid at the first service around 4000km. I don’t think they touched it. I’m just under 20000km and what you see came just from the final drive alone. There was also assembly lube caked on the drain plug that I had to scoop out with a q-tip among the gear dust. Nasty stuff.
I’m upping the routine and will change the final drive fluid when I do my engine oil.
