This has been covered before but there doesn't seem to be one single referenced guide to cover this, so here it is. For anyone looking for an ignition (switched) live there are two ready to cable up spare plugs on the bike. One is underneath the tank and I will show you the one which is very easily accessible under the left side cover. This is also a canbus timed delay at shutdown; of approximately 3 minutes.
To locate it, remove the left side cover and immediately behind the OBD2 connector is the spare plug. To access it, slide the OBD2 connector to the left. You do not need to remove the OBD2 connector from the stowage plug. Here you will see the plug which has a waterproof blanking piece fitted to it.

You will need a repair plug socket to join to the plug. It is BMW part number 83 30 0413 582. It has 3 wires. You will only need 2. I recommend not cutting off the spare wire. No power will be going to it, so it is safe to leave. (I don't see any reason why you couldn't cut off the plug and replace it with a cheap but durable supaseal plug and save yourselves £20/US$25)

In this case I am connecting up a powered Quadlock. By coincidence the cable was the correct length. The route chosen was to follow the clutch hose down and through the handlebars and then underneath the tank, exiting above left of and behind the OBD2 connector. The red/yellow (or red/orange depending on your colour perception) is the +ve (live) with the -ve (ground) being the brown. I staggered the wires to ensure a slimmer connection. I tagged the live with red tape and fitted insulated butt connectors (which I had trimmed the collars off of). I then used loom tape to wrap the cables.

I then cabled up the connectors and applied waterproof (glued) heat shrink and then loom taped over the top of it.

I then spent an eternity routing the power cable with fish tape and fastening it with cable ties to the clutch hose and fastening it at key points behind the OBD2 connector (shown with yellow highlighter above the cable route) until deciding that the power connector would now reside immediately underneath the OBD2 connector.
That’s it, a very simple although time consuming job. Hope this helps someone.
