BMW R18 100 Year Edition
I reached out to a local fabricator to make new headers that are 2” throughout. I’m blown away with how much a difference this makes with responsiveness, smoothness, and grunt when on the throttle. Highly recommend it if anyone was hesitant.

First we made a quick jig, capturing of the exact shape and orientation of original hardware, making sure we are capturing the key bits that need to be transferred over to the new design. I had to source the bungs but everything else was cannibalized from the original header (mounts, hangers)

From there, the fabrication design was thrown together using multiple pipe cuts and tack welded to give life to the design.

Final fitment and adjustments were made on the bike.

Right now it’s just polished up. Chroming will happen in the off season once I get the bike put away for the winter. I’m just loving that the exhaust look is actually real, rather than decorative bits imitating the exhaust flow.

This project ended up being straightforward once a plan was in play. It worked out perfectly having a 2” system right from the head down into the Akropovic exhaust.

Will upload a sound clip when I get a second.

That is some mighty fine fab job! ... so much nicer than what I saw from 'professional' shops before ... good on you! and kudos to the fabricator.

I agree with you. These guys were pros and a pleasure to deal with. I do feel very lucky I paired up with the right people.

If I ever decide to ditch my cats buried in the header pipes , I most certainly will give you a shout to get me in contact with this fabricator to make me a set as well ... I am using 'Freedom' slip ons made in Cali (that I really like) ... but I think they could be even better with these header pipes ;) Thanks for sharing!

Ulrich, with your skills keep the original header pipes ( Cats after bend between O2 sensors ). Cut before first O2 sensor ( approximately 15 mm forward of first sensor ) discard this section and weld in a new section of pipe. Then attach your mufflers. I chose longer straight section without mufflers - straight through.

Thanks for the vote of confidence :) ... but I think I like what that fabricator has done and just buy a set and keep the OEM version with the cats on the shelf ... as for now I am really not after power gain IMO she has plenty for my taste and with the aftermarket slip ons the sound is just right as well ;)
