I just recently saw this R18 in Facebook. Has anybody transferred the headlight of the Roctane to a R18 (Classic) already and can tell me the part numbers needed? Obviously I would try to reuse as much of the parts which are on the R18 already (e.g. I was told that the speedometer should fit into the headlight of the Roctane).

Hello everybody, I found a dealer in Germany who dismantled both the headlight of a roctane and an R18 to determine the differences. He came up with only a few parts (most can be reused) and we talk about USD600. I have received all parts and will work on this end of June. I even got the pages from the repair manual for this. So wait until then and I will publish the parts list and the diy-info on www.r1800wiki.org, once I have verified that nothing is missing.

The status of my modifications you find here: https://www.r1800wiki.org/en/2024/04/01/r18-valencia/

Didi, besides the need to purchase the ‘ bucket’ piece from the Roctane headlight, what other parts are required ( once you use all necessary parts from your original headlight ) ? Thanks, Brett.

Hi Brett, it is a list of 8-10 pieces. I do not want to publish it here before I have done it myself End of June in order to avoid to publish possibly not complete information. If you want to have the information beforehand (with a disclaimer from my side) I can send it to you by message or email.
:)

Didi , please send private message, would appreciate that. Want to start planning for change.
Thanks, Brett.

Hi Kate, I have progressed a lot but it seems that the housing of the speedometer in the Roctance headlight is different to the housing holder of the R18 cup. Do you have access to an explosive drawing of the Roctane headlight speedometer holder?

Are all of you with these bobber kits incredibly tall? They all have the brake and clutch levers rotated so far down

I am 6-1 and this is where mine have to be to be in line with my forearm and wrist.

Sorry Didi, l don’t.
Headlight looks good though .
Does the housing holder of the Roctane headlight not hold the original speedometer correctly?
Brett.

Ok, everybody. Since I have received several messages from different people waiting desperately for first results, I have started to write this article. But I am still waiting for 2 pieces to be shipped so I cannot be 100% sure.
What I can tell you nevertheless is that the parts were around €700
Please see here the work in progress: https://www.r1800wiki.org/en/2024/07/01/roctane-scheinwerfer-auf-r18/

People have asked what I meant. For comfort one should t have to lift the shoulder and wrap the wrist around the grip to apply the brake and clutch. There should be a nice line that naturally runs from the shoulders roughly to the lever.

I found the position of the Heritage seat to be too high for me . It's kind of like the position on the old /2 solo Denfeld seats. For me it not only made me a little tip toe (I'm 165 cm tall) but also put me too much "on top" of the bike. I ended up removing it and fabricating a custom plate for the /2 Pagusa seat I had on the bike before the bobber kit install.

Back to the original headline about the Roctane headlight. I have finished the article now.

Description in the R18 Repair Wiki on how to convert the headlight on an R18 to a Roctane headlight.

This was actually an intensive conversion with a lot of documentation. I hope I can help you with this too.

Didi, appreciate the detailed explanation for conversion to Roctane headlight. We share similar taste in bike / R18. However, you have the appropriate headlight !

No, more difficult to read but still possible. Do I care? No, all about optics :)
Walter, thanks for the instructions on your site. Used existing cross member ( cut with angle grinder/ painted gloss black) for brake lines. Brett
