BMW R18 Classic
Hello everyone, new to the forum although had my R18 Classic just over a year. I’m from Dundee in Scotland and there is no other R18’s around the area so every time I go out it’s seen as a curiosity. I enjoy the bike, however (and I doubt I’m alone) will change the stock seat as I’m fed up waiting for it to soften up. Apart from the seat I love the bike, it’s doing what I got it to do, slow me down. Previously had 2 Africa Twins, Fireblade and other sports bikes so my licence was at peril.

Welcome bud, I'm at the other end of the country! I had some of the foam chopped out of my seat and replaced with better stuff. The bloke was shaping it with an electric carving knife! It is much better now, better quality (denser) foam, slightly thicker in total with an upkick at the tank to stop me sliding into it. All of the manufacturers do it, they fit springy foam for the showroom and test ride which seem really comfy...until you've been on it an hour or two!

Welcome aboard mate. I am based in Essex, so a little far from you. My bike is also seen as a white unicorn every time I stop at a petrol station or traffic lights.
I have the Bagger version and the seat, although is not uncomfortable, I would like it to be a bit better. Frenchie here commissioned a seat by Tom Hurley in Scotland and I was blown away by the craftsmanship that I also contacted him to change the seat foam for medical grade gel and memory foam. The waiting list is long but I am sure it will be worth it.
Anyway, glad to see you joining the fun.

Just had a look at his website. Some delicious-looking custom seats there.

Welcome from up-north Michigan. I also purchased my r-18 to slow down a little. I previously owned a K1600B and could not obey speed limit signs. That speed is addicting and i could not keep it under a ton it so had to go. I have a winter home in central Florida and ride year round. I have only owned the classic about a month but it's starting to grow on me. Enjoy.

Welcome and the setting for your bike's photo is awesome!

The Classic was my choice too and whenever I change bikes I always ride for a thousand miles or so prior to changing things. I usually see minor ergonomic annoyances get better as muscle memory changes, etc., so discomfort becomes a non issue. Having said that and having an iron butt, even after several thousand miles the standard seat had to go as on day rides by 300 miles I was miserable and the often remaining hours to get home were worse. Anyway, I went with the BMW (Mustang) Weekender saddle and it was amazingly better. I've done multiple cross country rides going weeks with back to back days averaging 450-600 miles while needing just the occasional stretching along the way. A custom made or upgraded OEM saddle would have been ordered "Day 1" had I known the original wasn't going to break in even with reasonable wear time.

Congratulations and enjoy her, the R18s are great motorcycles!

Hello, glad you are enjoying your bike. When we are forced to slow it down a bit (due to the bikes dynamic range and weight) it opens up a whole new world of simple pleasures, in a similar way to the humble Enfield 350 Classic that has sold by the absolute truckload, all over the world.
