Hill Hold Assist added! (2023 Classic)

2023 BMW R18B and 2023 BMW R18C
Warhorse BMW (Camp Hill, PA) just called to let me know that my reverse recall was complete and that they were able to add Hill Hold Assist. I could not find any info on this forum about how to add it, so I asked my dealer to try and figure it out. They said everything is working properly and that I am good to go. Cost to me is $344 USD.

When I get the bike, I will post the part number for the software update that is required for the rest of you who were trying to add this feature. Rainy here for the next few days and they are not open Sunday and Monday, so it might not be until next week before I get the info for you guys...

Isn’t ‘hill hold resist’ on a motorcycle called the rear brake?

Thanks for confirming my suspicion that it can be added after the fact! I was thinking the same about to ask my dealer. Looking forward to that part number and software so I can get it set up with my dealer.

Haha.... when you roll out of your garage then start your bike, yours probally doesn't want to roll back into the closing garage door whilst you are putting on your helmet and gloves..... it would not surprise me that things like reverse and hill hold might give an older guy a few more years of managable riding a 300+ kilo bike..... so into ones 70's.

Not sure I fully get it. But that’s ok. When on a steep hill I just use the foot brake as a hill hold and feather it off. I just can’t find a reason to have another technology to do that.

I can see it in a car, with a clutch or of course you run out of feet, or when left foot braking is a bad thing. However I never even knew that was a thing for motorcycles as one has the free foot to apply the brake.

Haha. Need to get out more I guess.

Yeah.... as a 63yo.... of course one can have a foot on the rear brake, or a finger on the front etc.... all normal.... but for me, say on my drive (that slopes back to the garage).... if the bike is on the side stand it stays there.... but I preffer to sit on it and start it so off the side stand and after starting I might spend 1 minute putting on my helmet and gloves whilst the bike idles away..... and with both hands doing something I feel more secure with both feet down with a heavy bike.... rather then more of a lean to one side with one leg down. So... when ever I want "both hands off the bars" (whilst stationary) I preffer both legs down.... as I have less leg/hip strength these days to "catch it"..... of course normal weight bikes are less of a "risk".... and off course I could just put my gloves and helmet on before starting the bike!

Who knew. I thought it was for riding.

At 65 I think when I don’t have the confidence or competence to hold the bike up I’ll packed it in.

I do have another toy. My off-road beast. Hmm can’t upload a pic. I’ll try a video. Wait for it. lol

I've used the Hill Hold mostly out of laziness... I love it while it's doing the "holding" thing, but I actually find it difficult to start off when it's engaged..

I think I've stalled the bike a couple of times while using the dam feature, vs the old school method...

I'll keep trying it out from time to time..
 
So it’s just a software patch to enable it? Isn’t there some sort of finagling (yes, that’s the technical term) to turn it on for bikes that came with it standard? I only know this because when I bought mine the dealer thought it came with it and he was doing the aforementioned finagling to try to turn the hill assist on. I have never had it on a bike and it wasn’t a deal breaker when we discovered mine didn’t have it.
I’m curious about this and may consider adding it if it is so inexpensive. For me it’s a bit like the reverse feature…why not? Hell, I’m still amazed at having ride modes on a bike after getting my start riding way way back in the 1990s. :ROFLMAO:
 
On the TC the Hill Hold is activated in the settings part of the menus on the screen,
it uses the ABS system to apply pressure to the braking system when the rider needs
assistance on hills & inclines to prevent the bike from rolling. A sharp pull of the
brake lever sets & releases it when stationary. Pulling away from standstill also releases
the brakes until manually reset next time it's needed
 
I will pick up the bike on Tuesday and will take a picture of the service write up. I assume it will have the part number for the software. No parts were needed, just the software. This is on a 2023 Classic.

Picked up the Classic with the reverse recall completed and Hill Start Control (HSC) installed. Here is a pic of the work order for those who want to do the same. Part number for the software update is 77238536874. It can be found on the BMW parts fisch. They told me that the pic looks like a Compact Disc, but don't let that fool you into thinking that you need to order a CD. The dealer orders the part number and BMW configures the software that is VIN specific for your bike. This cannot be used on multiple bikes, as it is VIN specific.

Hope this helps others.
