My 2024 BMW R18 TC engine housing cover is matte silver. It recently got some stone chips and scratches on it. Can I use Meguiar's Compound or steel wool to remove them? Or if there is another good method, please let me know.

Hello. Tricky one that. My last R18FE front cover was chrome and my current Roctane is painted gloss black, so marks do show up, it’s inevitable really.

If your matte silver is a satin type finish I definitely would NOT try to use any abrasive on it like steel wool you will ruin it. Way too coarse. Polish could also make a mess of it, you’ll have to be really careful.

If you can’t live with them then I guess the only thing you can do is try to minimize them with a touch up pen or similar, that’s what I’m doing with my Roctane. I need reading glasses nowadays so if I’m not wearing them I can’t really see any blemishes anyway, which is handy. I have also used a permanent black marker pen which I ‘dab’ on the mark, then lightly polish over it and that works quite well actually.

Others may have better ideas. Good luck with it 👍
