So my WARN with a wrench icon indicator popped up today at 2000 miles. That means service due? I did all the liquids service myself at 600 miles. Is that what it is prompting for? Or is there another service at 2000? I thought it was at 600 miles and 5000 miles.

I have BT MORO Brentune CPU flash installed. device --does the Brentune device give more detail about the cause? Does it allow me to go in and turn it off if it's related to the 600 miles service? Probably questions I need to ask Brenture directly but figured I'd start here.

how did you reset the service interval on your bike? (GS11 or motoscan dongle/app etc) BT's hand held thing does not have that functionality.

I thought the dealer reset it when I took it in to have the Reverse disabled I told them I did the service myself and asked him to reset it. Maybe he didn't. I' forgot to follow up and ask.

But at least i know I can't do it myself with the Brentune thing.

If they didn't reset it and it's warning me of something else --then it's a PITA because I'll have to set it back to factory CPU, take it in and have it diagnosed/fixed. At that point then I should just go ahead and upgrade the reverse. Then I have to pay another 200 to BT-MOTO for remapping.

What I was trying to avoid was having to mess with setting CPU back to factory until I was at the 2nd service at 6000 mi. Then I could have the 6K service. AND the reverse ungraded AND then the reamapping. All in one go.

Pisses me off all this reampping for something that was LOT of money for very little bang.

If you are already doing your own 6k mile service work; it probably make sense, to invest in something like the GS-911 tool.

I personally use the GS-911; however, none of my R18 bikes have the BT mapping, I'd be interested in hearing from other BT forum members that can confirm if the GS-911 works with BT.

Fwiw.... you would not need to remove the tune to have the dealer reset the service reminder (milage and date based)....

And having a tune doesn't alter the functionality of the gs911/motorscan.....

Bingo - that's the answer I was hoping for --thank you. However resetting the reminder is still something I would prefer to do myself --now I guess that means investing in gs911

Just heard about the Moto Scan App.... That appears to work too...?

This guy finally gets around to canning the gs911m, preferring the MotoScan but I'm not so sure I believe him. :ROFLMAO:

And just to throw this AI reply into the mix... So I wrote BT-moto --I will advise their reply.

If it can, I'm going that route, if only to stall having to make a gs911 $500.-$700 investment right now.

I believe the service light will come on after one year from the last reset to signal the need for annual service. Is a date shown next to the wrench?

Or?

Maybe it's worse than I think... now I'm afraid to ride to the dealers.

Which --apoprears in this case I'll have to revert back to factor CPU.

I guess to get to the bottom of this... I need the GS911 after all. I am expecting that will define exactly WHAT "service" is necessary.

Does the GS911 WIFI come with the 16-pin OBD2 connector? Or is that yet another piece/cable I need to buy to connect the GS to the bike?

I collected my bike from BMW this morning after them doing the reverse recall ( I did test the reverse function while I was there) and after leaving them I was scrolling through the menu and the same warning spanner appeared on the display. Turned around and went back to BMW, took them 1/2 an hour and they could not find any fault. Anyway my time was limited so I left saying I would return the bike if the problem persists. Got home, rechecked menu, no warning spanner showing. Wonder if the reverse gear test triggered something?

Fwiw.... when I got mine home a similar thing occurred (after reverse recall)..... I discovered the date was not set.... if I recall correctly.

I just had the wrench icon light up on my bike at 1100 miles, I did the 600 mile service at the dealer and everything was reset. Took it to BMW and the tech said after a year or so the wrench light goes on regardless of your mileage. I had a hip replacement and didn't ride for months.
Meanwhile they fixed my reverse recall and reset the bike. That removed MY Brentune. I took it back to my speedshop to reflash the Brentune map. I had to get a new map for some reason because the previous map would not download. The flashing is a pain in the ass unless you can do it yourself.
I'd be curious to know if the map you have now will reload once your bike is reset from BMW.
Why didn't the factory send these bikes out to perform optimally? This big ass motor for an 1800 could easily perform better without unnecessary stress on the clutch, trans, brakes et. Just another 20-25 lbs of torque and you have something....

Meanwhile, CA probably has the strictest emissions in the country, and yet you can legally re map vehicles here.
There is two major factors in that:
1. homologation rules are a LÓT more comprehensive and ditto restricting than periodic inspection criteria.
2. the folly of ´local´ laws/regulations

As I'm sure you know, re mapping does not increase sound or emissions normally. In many cases it will actually lean out areas in the torque curve causing less emissions.
BMW makes bikes that are what 200hp that are shipped to the states and pass emissions. They could certainly have given the R18s a LOT more power and met emission and exhaust requirements.

And THAT in my view accounts for the lousy resale of this model. If the R18s left the factory at 135-150 lbs of torque to the real wheel, the resale and demand would be MUCH better or great actually.

Normally it does affect emissions.

Different engine concepts cannot be compared AT ALL. Three times the revs will make a wee difference p.e. ;)
The BMEP of the R18 is quite good actually.
Now, if in California you can indeed ignore conformation with homologation then there is some 15 hp to be found in the R18. See Roland Sands tuning experiments.

As to resale I think more torque/power would have scared off as many if not more than it would have attracted.

But hey we can differ in opinion.
