Is this rust and what should be done?

I'm considering to buy a used r18 from someone I don't know.

I've noticed there's some spot rust on the motorcycle and I wonder if this is normal or does it need to be treated?

Separately, the Chrome bed seems to be a bit faded, as you can see in the drive shaft, it's a bit dull.

Canthese all be freshened up? Thanks

In my country (no salted roads etc) this would not be a "A" grade used bike, more a bike with a story (ridden in rain, stored outside etc). I'd need to compare it to others on the market price wise, condition etc. I assume it is a HK bike.

FWIW..... the drive shaft is nickle coated, not chromed.

So looks like a no-go for this bike. I wonder if this is the same across all bikes in Hong Kong

I do have a number of bikes and I've never encountered rust issues

Haha.... I always click on the posters info to check for context (ie location, model etc when it isn't specified)..... it's pretty amazing how diversified things can be. There are even people here that have "riding seasons"....

Fwiw.... one will occasionally find some post about a bit of rust/chrome lifting..... but nothing to suggest it is common. The bottom of that shock suggests this bike has seen/been exposed to something a bit out there (beach ride, caustic degreasers?).

So here are a few more photos from the same bike. I do find it strange why there would be rust spots all over... Possibly from modifications?

Something has scuffed those areas. If it was lower on the bike, I'd say it may have been dropped.

It's nothing a sand and some touch-up paint couldn't fix but I'd be wanting to know how those got there.

Don’t know the bike market where you are but I’d pass on that one, there are many very well cared for bikes out there and the right one will come around I’m sure.
