Point in case of the mufflers being that there is no nééd to do a retune. The stock program is very flexible in maintaining the mixture within set parameters as the Roland Sands tests illustrate. In the article(s) it was mentioned that they got the 107 hp with stock ECU.
Whether in the sense of running ´better´ the R18 benefits from a retune or not is an entirely different issue.
I've made my point of how much better the bike runs through my experience, so I'll leave it there.

No doubt the ECU will do it's best to tune to the euro 5 based installed maps as best it can after the exhaust and intake type mods. I was super surprised on one of the bikes how much midrange torque there was after the tune..... bike was running fine before so I must of got use to the loss of midrange performance after the changes, noise was good though. Peak hp on the R18 is a day to day irrevalent thing in my opinion though..... so a poor measure of bike engine usable performance.

There is no doubt additional tuning can gain power IMO. ESPECIALLY midrange @ WOT as you describe. Additional timing, and enrichment will help any ICE engine within a threshold. The only point I believe he was making was that it's not absolutely necessary. The widebands will enrich the fuel in the table maps, but only within the set parameters of allowance, and with no additional timing. Is it absolutely needed? No. But if you want the most from any engine, the baseline map, enrichment, and timing tuning is definitely the direction.

Indeed, in answer to a direct question. A retune with modofied intake or mufflers is not any more needed than for a completley stock bike. The stock program will maintain the same mixture for a whole lot of modifiactions.

The rest is a different subject with it´s own caveats and complications. There are several threads about that, mostly about the currently only commercially available one; Brent tune. I am happy to contribute to that.

Yep.... peak hp for a drag bike might be relevant. Not my usercase.
