New to bmw

Welcome aboard and congratulations on your new bike. Go out, ride your new bike and get to know her. She is a big girl but once you get her rolling she will become very agile for her size. I use mine on a daily basis to ride into Central London and split lines 50% of my commute and always amazes me the relative ease to sit lanes and weaving through traffic.
 
Here is my advice:

Love it for what it is. It is a homage to prior BMW history. You are riding a rolling piece of art. It does many things well but it also has disadvantages that have been well documented. Learn about the boxer history. Learn about the older models that this bike is based on. Read the 100 year anniversary book that came with some of the bikes. If you do this you will have a better appreciation of what this bike is and can appreciate and extoll its virtues and history to others. Then just enjoy riding.
