OEM vs. “cheap” 3rd-party leg shields

Has anyone had the opportunity to compare the OEM leg shields vs. the made-in-China (or elsewhere) leg shields? The OEM shields are not only expensive (expected), but would also need to be painted. My concern is putting noticeably cheap or poorly painted parts on the bike.

I always prefer to go with the OEM parts and accessories; unless, there is a compelling improvement in quality from a 3rd party manufacture - i.e. I prefer the fitted WeatherTech rubber winter mats vs the Tesla OEM fitted rubber mats.

I had the Engine Protection Bar installed at the time of purchase of my 2022 Model B First Edition, and eventually purchased, painted and installed the OEM TC parts to assemble the Lower Leg Wind Protection Fairings; which worked great wind-wise, however - I have since removed the setup, as I'm going for a more "cleaner" look for my Bagger.. I know I'm going to curse the world, the day I do something stupid, which results in a slow, controlled drop of my bike..

I'm actually considering selling my OEM Engine Protection Bar + Fairing setup...

Yeah, I hear you. I’ve put a lot of money into this bike. Aside from the Dr. H&H exhaust, most of it is OEM, but I was curious about the quality of the non-OEM setup. If you ever decide to sell them separately, let me know. I’d like to see whether the reduction in buffeting is worth it compared to the look. I really like the clean appearance as well.

I looked at that. I have the first edition in Black Storm Metallic; these are listed as vivid black. I really don’t know what vivid black actually means, but I don’t want a paint mismatch either. Can’t tell from the pictures.

I too bought a set of these because I wanted to see how they might reduce helmet buffeting. I had planned on replacing them with oem parts if poor quality and if they helped the buffeting problem. I was surprised at how well they were made and the color and finish is great. They mounted up well and in addition these stopped the helmet buffeting completely.

I installed these today, and I was quite surprised by how well they are made. Or maybe more surprised that they are not a total POS. I actually think they look good on the bike, which is another surprise. I would estimate that with the flaps and these deflectors, the buffeting is reduced by about 80%. Probably the best $115 I’ve spent on the bike.

I actually just ordered the same set and I’m waiting for them to arrive; the brand is TCMT from china and like their tour packs, they are nice quality given the price.
