Folks, is having an opaque oil site glass a common occurrence? Are they easy to replace? Do I need to fully drain oil? Any videos or instructions available? I cant seem to easily see my oil level. I’m doing the correct methods I’m sure. Any thoughts on this? Thank you
Jeff

I have owned BMW’s for decades and never had a site glass issue.

If your sight glass is opaque, then you probably overfilled it.

Have someone tilt the bike up from the side stand and watch if the sight glass changes (or, do it yourself and take a short video on your phone of the sight glass while tilting). Did the oil appear and then fill the entire glass?

If it's overfilled, take out the necessary amount to bring it to MAX.

No it is not.... would only ne through a faulty part that this would be possible in a 3 or 4 yo bike. Hence whilst the posts above are going down the line of a faulty operator....

Maybe I wasn’t patient enough after the oil change to let the site place level register properly anyway here’s some photos. I tried to describe them after the post.

Not sure why it’s not taking the photo clicking the little photo icon on top of picking the photo and it says OPPs there is a problem so I gotta figure that out

Replacing the Sight Glass is a big job; hopefully, your bike is under warranty if the glass needs to be replaced. It requires special tools to mill out the gasket and a scraper to remove any remains of the gasket.

I’m with Star-Lord above. My first thought was is there enough oil in it or the opposite (too much). There’s only 500ml if I remember correctly between high & low marks on the sight glass, not much in such a physically big engine. If you don’t have the bike properly vertical you could easily misread it, like being on a see-saw.

When I first checked mine I had a bit of a head scratch /heart sinking moment until I sussed it out. I now park my bike (upright in a stand) in the exact same spot on level ground and I can see the level so know it’s ok. Basically looking for any changes (I.e. dropping level) which so far it hasn’t, at all.
