R18 Classic + Aliexpress.

So far everything that I have bought from Ali Express is now hanging on my garage wall, I bought the chrome carrier for the rear mudguard but the seat securing bracket doesn't really have place for the carrier bracket and looks crap, I have another rearward carrier which is ok but looks odd without the pillion seat, Ali Express sent me the wrong cylinder head protector and wont refund or return ( try explaining to a chatbot) seems it may be for a 1800TC, luckily by mistake I only ordered one and not a pair. So for me Ali Express a bit of a no go zone for now.

I never order anything from Aliexpress unless it’s cosmetic. My cylinder head protectors are the biggest thing I’ve ordered and I was lucky. I’ve never had anything go wrong, but that’s just good luck.
I thought that can message them directly on their website??

there is always one that goes wrong even with paying a lot for original German stuff. I have a bl@@dy R18 stand/lift go awol in shipping and the German seller does not want to know. Cannot imagine how much one would need to order from Ali for the same to add up.

That is another point in favour of Ali. I ordered a rear carrier bag for dog transport. the seller misrepresented that it was shipped and it did not arrive as expected. complained to the seller lots of excuses. complained direct to Ali-express. resolved in my favor. full credit and big apologies. the seller had said it was shipping from EU but it clearly was not. Even crazier it arrived 3 weeks after the original date and I reached out to Ali and asked if they would like it returned. And they responded. Nope keep it! seller tried to get me to pay something and I just forwarded it to Ali. Same as why I tend to order from Amazon even if it is slightly higher price than buying direct unless I am physically picking the items up. Why because if there is a problem then Amazon takes care of the issue. don't have to get into it with the seller.
Now as a seller that is terrible and one reason my first online foray failed. but as a consumer it is definitely good.
All parts I have purchased from Ali have been as advertised.
 
I have bought a lot of bling for many of my bikes in the past, including my old Roctane and First Edition. Anything cosmetic seems fine except for some chromed alloy items which literally started flaking after a week of UK weather! Powder coated stuff seems ok though.
I bought a Wunderlich batwing but still wince when I remember the price I paid ........ for some injection moulded plastic! I know that their accessoies are all top notch quality wise but if its just some bling then it doesn't matter if it made from plastic, alloy, Chinesium etc. In my opinion, the likes of Wunderlich are simply banking on the BMW owner to have more money than sense, and the type of buyer that doesn't need to think about the cost.
The Chinese have really progressed a lot in recent years - I even bought their Benda LFC700 which is amazing value for money and a cool looking bike, definitely rivalling anything else in the world. I still love my R18 more though

For shiny bits that aren’t about safety, most Chinese stuff seems ok and has improved a lot.
